Worried About scammers. Or people with bad intentions.

For those who do not know, I am visually impaired. And one of the things that has been on my mind lately is how can I be aware of a potential scammer if I were to meet them. I was in contact with one person who wanted to meet in the evening at a park at 9 PM. I am nervous about meeting at that at that time because of scary stories I have heard about people getting robbed late at night.
This person also wanted me too Pay him even though he was not a pro.

  • @Andy1996 that all sounds very dodgy, my sympathies. Meeeting in a park at 9pm is ... not what most people would suggest. I would most certainly not agree to that for a first meeting.

Anybody not who wants to be paid but is not registered as a professional should be reported. The only reason this site continues to exist is because of revenue from registered professionals.

Always trust your gut. If you aren't sure about a stranger from the internet, don't go anywhere near them.. The internet has many other strangers for you to meet.

I have met dozens and dozens of strangers from the internet in person and have never had any difficulty at all.

  • Believe me, I was extremely hesitant. I would much rather meet someone in the afternoon. That was the only of that experience I have had. All of my other experiences on this side have been wonderful.

@Andy1996: Like CuddleDuncan says, any non-pro asking for payment should be reported. Only pros are allowed to charge—so please report this person, whoever they are.

Report people who try to make money off the site without supporting it by registering as pros. Cleaning out the parasites helps this place keep running.

Trust your instincts and report. Please help make CC safe.

  • Believe me, I am definitely going to. Because I found the entire thing to be very shady.
Plus the persons profile did not directly state that they are a professional.

  • I also deleted this person‘s phone number.

  • If something seems weird and your gut says something's off, trust your gut.

  • @Andy1996 ~
Meeting at a place that isn't well lit, populated, and/or doesn't have security cameras is NOT what I would call a SAFE first meeting place for anyone, let alone one with visual impairments.

Please be safe. And YES!! Always trust your instincts!!

@Andy1996 I can't add anything new that someone else hasn't already said, but I hope you are OK and that you aren't too shaken by this experience. There are plenty of good people on the site, and lots of people are keen to look out for others and keep these jerks away from this nice space thats been created.

  • I did block this person.
