@LovenLight I enjoyed using BBSes back in the 90s. I ran one for a while too. And I started running one again in 2007, accessible on the internet via telnet. There is still a number of BBSes running on the internet these days.
@OhioMike YES I vaguely remember the 90s (800MHz?) two-ways and direct connect! That was revolutionary back then! My friends dad had something to do with communications and electronics so he always had the latest electronic devices in the early 90s. When he wasn't home we'd use the scanners to intercept comms. It was so much fun!
@APV That's great! Thanks for that link. I'm wondering if anyone else had tried it? From what I recall it didn't taste that great, made my stomach hurt, but it was "trendy" to keep one on your desk at school.
@FlyingToaster BBSes were great back then before the internet was widely available! Yes they're making a comeback via telnet with us retro-tech nerds due to the nostalgia factor. I set one up not that long ago too just for the heck of it. Is yours still accessible? What were your favorite DOOR games back then? My top was LORD, had to play that everyday and Lunatix. Loved those ANSI/ASCII graphics!
Anyone remember the 90s Internet Yellow Pages Books? These directory books would be printed every year with the urls of websites. As more and more sites were created every year you'd have to buy a new book and they would get thicker and thicker. I think I still have them somewhere!
@LovenLight Yes my BBS is still accessible. Funny thing is, I've now been running my current BBS longer than I ran my first BBS in the 90s. Some of my favorite door games were Legend of the Red Dragon, Land of Devastation, and a few board/card games. I actually was never too big on the door games. I used to mainly look for games & other software to download in the 90s, and these days I mainly read & post on the networked message forums.
