Christmas 2020

This year has all around been...interesting. To spend Christmas holidays all alone, sick with COVID-19 on top of it too is frustrating. I'm already missing being around people and my family...and to not have that option of spending time with them over the holidays is honestly brutal.

Any feel good holiday stories?

  • Sorry, I got nothin'. But feel better soon- best of luck with that bug!!

  • Post Christmas Blues

  • Covid is brutal. I had it over thanksgiving. I was able to FaceTime with family but I felt so alone. Speedy recovery!

  • Very sad for so many.

  • @Sela_Zzz I hope you get through it and feel better.

I did an online video meeting with Zoom with some of my family on Christmas Eve and got together with a very small group of some of my family on Christmas day, and we watched A Christmas Story.

  • I live alone. More than half of the last ten months have been under lockdown here in London, and the regulations are cruel to people on their own. I like being on my own in principle, and I will have survived better than most. Covid has not been especially bad for me, in some details it's even been good. But I'm already lonely, and this has been a lonely year.

I have only surived by, ahem, liberal interpretation of the rules. I'm very careful, and thoughtful: masks, handwashing, social distancing as much as possible, and only seeing one person at a time. That has often been for cuddling, most commonly a professional. I have met some wonderful women this year, and I don't say that because they cuddled me. These are people I would be over the moon to have in my life in any capacity whatsoever. Along the way I have also had the good fortune to have a few enthusiast cuddles, both online and in person. Just as wonderful.

For Christmas I was expecting to spend the day, and a couple of days afterwards, with my sister's family. We did it last year and it was probably the highlight of my year. The whole thing was cancelled at four days notice by the imposition of new, much stricter regulations resulting from the appearance of this new, easy-to-catch strain.

These factors all collided a few days before Christmas. The plans were cancelled, and for various reasons my sister has to be very strict about the rules. We discussed me coming just for lunch, but that would have broken the regulations because I had seen somebody socially (in fact for a cuddle) within the last ten days. So she wouldn't let me come.

In the middle of all this I was in conversation with a local cuddly buddy. She was in a broadly similar situation with, as it happened, her brother.

And so, deus ex machina, I went to her on Christmas Eve, she cooked a wonderful meal, and I had my first overnight cuddle. We woke up on Christmas morning to a beautiful day, and my breakfast was home-made orange cake and lapsang souchong tea, a rare treat for me. It couldn't have been nicer. Hooray!

tl:rd Everything was bad. Including Christmas. But at the last minute, it was saved by cuddling.
