    I’m revising my answer.

    Corner= intersection of two or more planes
    Therefore corners per box shaped room = {4,8}

    4 cats/corner x {4,8} corners/box shaped room = {16,32} cats/room.
    But then we learn each cat has exactly one cat in front of it, so there becomes {32,64} cats/room.

    There is not enough information in the problem statement to make a closed form solution, and I think that is the intent.

    We must assume the cats must not face the other corners of the room, lest the ‘one cat in front of each cat’ statement will not be true. The other problem is there is a paradox. If each cat has one cat in front of it, what about the cat in front of the first cat? If it has a cat in front of it then the statement is true for the front cat, but false for the original cat, which will have two cats in front of it. If the front cat does not have a cat in front of it, we also violate the rule. So, we cannot satisfy this rule. This paradox prevents us from forming a clear answer.

    If we ignore the paradox, and apply the rule to only the first original cat count we are left with the set {32,64}. If we further assume real cats subject to gravity in a real room on earth, the 4 corners at the ceiling cannot hold any cats. That reduces the answer to 32 cats.
