Valentines Day šŸ’

Most often it seems this day is just for females.. but do any guys ever get into Valentines Day, or wish they had someone just for that day?

  • It's just another day for me. Has been that way for as long as I can remember.

My wife and I have an agreement that Valentine's is just another day since I try to do nice things on random days throughout the year. (For example, l sent her flowers at work in mid January for no reason.

I don't really get the appeal of these types of days. If I liked someone, I would show them appreciation regardless of the day, but maybe that's just me. Since I'm a guy though, I guess I'm reinforcing your stereotype haha

@creedhands Clever. I think it's basic human pyschology to appreciate something more when it is unexpected. If my SO expects a big box of chocolate and extra effort/attention on a particular day, it makes it much harder to surprise and create a special moment. On the flipside, it is also sometimes next to expect something, and actually have it done, since life is crazy and unreliable like that.

  • I've only ever received one Valentine card, and that was when I was in my twenties. It was just signed "Guess who". I never found out who it was from.

  • the biggest manufactured fake day ever. hard pass on any company getting one red cent from me on that day. I don't celebrate it or get into it personally. not my thing.

@ukguy glad you got my card , I was curious

  • Lol.. rockroll.. . Thanks for the replies. I've always be the giver on valentines.. I likevto give to my kids, friends ect

  • No boo. Previous, it was dinner out at a favorite hole-in-the-wall.

I've never been in a romantic relationship with anyone who has cared, even slightly, about Valentine's Day. This is probably because I don't form relationships with anyone who is into stupid garbage.

One day's basically the same as any other so far as I'm concerned (I don't even celebrate my own birthday)—but I think the Japanese have this thing called White Day that's basically like Valentine's for guys. Maybe you could try bringing that to your own country, if you like it.

  • I love it !! Another day to celebrate love .. what’s not to love

  • Everything you've never needed to know about Valentine's Day.

Whenever I've been in a relationship, I've been the giver when it comes to romantic gestures, and I really like it that way. I love doing things for a partner on special occasions (anniversaries, Valentine's Day, etc). But I see the point of doing special things both randomly and planned ahead of time. Random gifts, etc throughout the year shows your partner you think about them regularly. Planning ahead for special events shows you're willing to go the extra mile for them, not just do things when it's convenient for you or when you feel the impulse.

(If you have kids you could always try telling them "I do nice things for you throughout the year, so we're not doing anything for Christmas" but I think that would go over like a lead balloon :joy: But I know every relationship is different. I'd skip Valentine's Day if my partner wasn't into that.)

That being said... I'm not crazy about the commercialism of Valentines Day, so I don't believe in spending a ton of money on it or anything. I've mostly used it as an occasion to give thoughtful gifts and make good memories.

@creedhands I liked to do the same; sometimes traveling for work, I'd see something that I thought she'd like and buy it. But still, I think it's nice to celebrate the day, but nothing huge.
As of right now, I look forward to the day after, when there's a bunch of V-day themed chocolate on sale...! :-D

Birthdays, Xmas, Anniversaries, and Valentine's Day are 4 days I come through with a grand romantic gesture or nice gift if I'm in a committed relationship.

For me, it's simply another opportunity outside of "just because" to ensure my significant other knows she is valued.

  • If I'm in a relationship and its important to them we do something nice for each other but if it's not important to them then no we dont do anything for each other

As a guy who has been single for 5-ish years, Valentine's Day does tend to get more difficult each year. Harder to avoid really more than anything else just because it's hard to escape this pressure it makes me feel that I'm supposed to be with somebody. I mostly just try to ignore it.

That said, I often will do something small just for single women in my life that I'm close friends with or similar, something just like a small thing of chocolate, just to show them my appreciation for their friendship and so they may not feel as lonely that day also, if that was something they were going through. Either way, just nice to do.

Aside from the fun that Valentine’s Day brought as a kid, I’m not a huge fan of commercialism telling me when to be romantic. I’m with @Maverick07 in celebrating February 15th when perfectly good chocolate is suddenly half price. Haha

Below is a video (click on the picture) of the best Valentine’s Day un-celebration I’ve had. I could’ve saved this for the next inevitable ā€œboneā€r thread, I suppose...but here will do just fine. šŸ˜†

    How to Valentine’s

  • @valkyrievixen I love it! šŸ˜‚ Especially when you shooshed ā€˜em. You’re so adorable! šŸ˜‚

Did you go there specifically for Valentine’s Day?

  • @tana_dellavolpe Ha, thanks...

I didn’t go there for V-day. Haha. In fact, I’d completely forgotten what day it was till I laid eyes on Valentine’s bones. So it was only a happy little accident. 😊

  • Valentine, by T'Pau (of "Heart and Soul" fame of the 80's)

  • I think Of Valentine’s Day as a time to have gratitude for love and connections ā¤ļø I love Love and connection. I love family and friends

  • @shelle Good interpretation. Who says Valentine's day has to be limited to romantic love?

  • [Deleted User]p01ndexter (deleted user)

Last year for Valentine's day I was tired of being bored and alone so I asked my friend if she wanted to go out as a friend. I bought her pink and white tulips and she said on fb that she liked the heart reese's so I got those too. We watched birds of prey in theatre then ate taco bell. It was really fun. It boosted my morale and confidence for sure even though it was a super lame date

  • I've never liked valentine's day, even when I was younger. It was just a stupid day to me. My fiancĆ© tries to make it a fun special day for me now, which is all that I could ask for. I'm a romantic so it feels wrong to hate the day of love

I see a lot just see it as another day, not for me. It can be a very sad day for some, like Xmas is for some also.
If anyone likes a sad song to make them think how short life is and we have no idea of what tomorrow will bring, feel free to Google or go to U-Tube and search for the song " Honey ", by Bobby Goldsboro,
then reach out to people you care about and let them know you feel !!!!! If they are close by, give them a BIG hug !!
I did NOT post this to see if anyone else likes this song, if you do, fine, if you don't, that's fine also. I could care less!!
My thought was to get MORE people to hug one another, of course, ONLY if you are into doing that.

Bobby Goldsboro? Add another reason Valentine’s Day is just another day and very forgettable.

The only attraction of Valentine’s Day is that it is another day closer to spring.

    @waynewv

I did not enjoy the song you recommended. My favorite romantic song is "Bück Dich" by Rammstein. Reported, reviewed, and removed other musical reference with explicit adult content removed. [-Sid]

    Also: I loathe Valentine's Day.

  • @squeakytoy - I bet you're really successful in love relationships. That is such a great outlook.

  • @FunCartel , well, I'm just going by every post I see from you, it's always a negative comment, you seem to find fault in every topic. And it's not just me that has noticed that !!!! I'm glad I was raised to show respect, I will not type anything I would not tell a person to there face. And how do you get I ORDERED you to listen to a song-????
What I wrote was for anyone that has never heard that song, I sure as hell didn't order anyone !!!!!!
