I just have a problem with anyone who thinks, as he put it, that “social workers make good money.” They don’t make enough! They make less than teachers in most cases and see a lot more bad shit than most people.
@FunCartel lol that'd be why I have 3 jobs and drive a Hyundai! Another myth is that SW are there to feel sorry for you and to do all the work to "fix you "
@jdk1185 Exactly what @pmvines said. I see no point in this thread where he was being "negative".
@pmvines I think this is the problem, because i read your comment and i will agree that you didn't say anything negative when you gave him advice. But to lash back at someone who is already feeling a certain way about themselves is creating negativity, regardless of the fact that you intended to help him. I understand not wanting to stroke the back of someone who is going through a pity party; I'm not quite sure i would say that it is a pity party, i have little to no information on what is going on with him; i think we just need to remember we are in the middle of a pandemic. I think this is the problem with interactions, things get lost in translation. Because it came off to me like you just snapped back, but that was just my perception of it, when after reading your response I'm 99.9% sure that's not what you intended.
Moving along, @Paradigm_Shift if you want to give some specifics i may able to offer advice to you, i've been through alot of different situations so i may be of use. Or i may be utterly useless, like this weather.
@pmvines Yeah a friend’s wife is a Child Welfare Officer. She finally got her Master’s degree in Sociology so she could do less field work. She got tired of malnourished, mentally and physically abused children. What motivated her is she was shot at on two different occasions. She worked out in a rural county for the State regional office in Missouri. Ever seen the movie “Winter’s Bone”? It was set in rural Missouri and written by someone who grew up in the country in Missouri. The meth trade is enormous and the desperation palpable. She did this for $34,000 a year.
