Thanks @PeopleLikeUs ! I've never had complaints about how I treat my partners, but admittedly, I'm not great in love relationships for other reasons - I tend to attract and be attracted to people who are bad for me, but I'm working on that. One step at a time!

I totally agree. Hallmark Cards world headquarters is 20 minutes away from me and I knew and still know some of the artists that were there. Hallmark has been eliminating their creative staff systematically over the years and during the pandemic they accelerated the process. The characters and style each artist produces becomes the property of Hallmark so the artists cannot take that with them when they leave. The “love” company is nothing more than an unfettered greedy corporation and the actual heart of the company—the artists and writers—are nothing more than grist for the mill.
Lay off the personal attacks, please. Don't like a topic or thread? Move on. Thanks for playing nicely.
Valentine's Day is not suitable for couples. If you want to see a bunch of miserable people, go into a restaurant on Valentines night.
I've done Valentines Day properly several times when in relationships. I mean flower petals scattered across the floor secretly during the night; "I love you" carved in the butter; mulitple bunches of flowers delivered at various places during the day; specially written poems of love hidden in the underwear drawer; semi-surprise dinner booked months in advance at the restaurant widely regarded as the most romantic in London; the whole nine yards. The conclusion was always the same: it was lovely thank you, but not worth it and can we not do this again next year.
It is, or rather should only be, a celebration for people who are attracted to each other within groups. School, workplace, etc. The bits that are fun are things like sending anonymous cards. The original medieval festival, when this whole thing started, was about drawing lots for dates. You don't need to think very hard to imagine how much fun that could be. Or how awful, which is of course half the fun.
The best Valentines Day I ever had was reading out loud in the office a semi-pornographic poem in rhyming couplets, which was written inside a giant card given to me anonymously. It was brilliant, and it made the day of everybody.
Taking editorial license here and deleting ALL comments on this thread not related to the OP's post. Seriously, what's with the bickering and pettiness today?
@CuddleDuncan I actually agree with you on V-Day not being for couples. So true. It is like a room full of people that picked the short straws.

Valentines day may be a manufactured holiday but you can say the same.about most holidays. Shouldn't matter what others think of it . Fathers day and mothers day are manufactured holidays, but if I dont get some sort of acknowledgement from my son it does sting a little . If something is important to you and to the one you are with then do.as you see fit. I personally enjoy doing nice things for the people in my life. So if I am with someone and valentines day is important to them , I do something extra nice for them because I would want to see them happy. Not like I need a holiday for that , but sometimes a holiday is an excuse to put a little more effort into something. Big deal . Nothing to argue the merits of whether it is a true holiday or worthy of our attention.
Happy Valentines Day to all!!!❤️
Hsppy Love to all! In fact, this should be every day when can, but...oh well!
Valentine's Day tends to be just another day for me...though I avoid public places other than my employer when it falls during the week because I fear being unable to avoid witnessing exaggerated, prolonged PDA wherever there's a wait of more than 2 minutes for anything. As soon as mask orders are over, couples won't just be holding each other wherever they're waiting in line...they'll be kissing too. Since breaking up with my virginity taker for the second time in 2018, I have lost all tolerance for witnessing PDA.
@waynewv I loved singing that song on my channel. It’s such a sweet song with an important message!
@Sheena123 , thanks I agree, but watch OUT, if you say you like it, you may get attacked !!!!!!!
When I was in relationships, Valentine's Day felt somewhat forced and awkward...not really romantic. Part of that could be that those weren't good relationships lol.
But my father always buys both me and my mother flowers on Valentine's Day, it's lovely and something I genuinely look forward to. This year my brother took up the tradition and got me orange tulips.
TBH, I get more excited about Feb. 15th... Discount Chocolate Day!
