For Enthusiasts and Pros Who Have Virtually Cuddled

[Deleted User]SuperSnuggler2 (deleted user)

If you are a pro or enthusiast who has participated in a virtual cuddle, what were you hoping to gain from the session and how did you feel about the outcome? I am thinking of offering virtual cuddles and, as a pro, I am interested in giving the best experience I can, so I would be interested in your hearing about your experience.

Did you simply wish to have a friendly person to listen to your troubles? Did you participate in guided meditation or relaxation exercises? Did you enjoy doing those exercises? Were there other things that you enjoyed or didn't?

Overall, the concept of virtual cuddling intrigues me. One the one hand, it almost seems silly, but on the other hand, some people cuddle for connection as much as touch and connection can certainly come through conversation and sharing verbally.

NOTE: Please don't feel obliged to "name names." And thank you for your insights.

  • I'd love to read some stories about virtual cuddles, as well

  • This reminds me of the TBBT episode where Sheldon talks to Amy on Skype and she helps guide him how to relieve some neck pain he was having.

  • As a pro, I let them decide what to talk about for the most part. I don't want to make it about me since this is the session they paid for. So, I listen when appropriate and talk when appropriate. I may still start a topic if needed or go off of the last topic into a similar one but do my best not to make it about them so they are happy with the session. I want to be supportive, a good listener, and offer what they might be seeking whether just a good chat or to cheer them up. Some even offered to do just a phone chat too. So that's a new one for me but I'll still focus on them and make the most of it so they are happy with the session they paid for.

The forum search function isn't very good, you're probably better off using google to search the forum. There have been a number of threads about what to do in a virtual cuddle.

Remember that what you are trying to recreate is the emotional and physical connection of a real cuddle. Doing this successfully requires proper thought. Some things of course you can just copy: if you'd use candles or guided meditation in a physical cuddle, then use them in a virtual cuddle.

Here is a post I wrote a while back.

Doing breathing exercises together can be good. Any standard de-stressing exercises. Also self-massage, just do it together to create a sense of togetherness. Simply talking about what you are doing is surprisingly effective.

One I found good was hugging yourself, and then closing your eyes and pretending it is the other person. This is obviously better if you have previously met in person. If you keep your eyes open, look at each other and smile as you hug yourself imaginging it's the other person, that's good too.

In other words it doesn't really matter. What you are trying to do is create a sense of peace, intimacy, togetherness and care, just like a physical cuddle.

Is it all as good as a real cuddle? No, of course not. It is much better than nothing? Oh, yes.

  • For me, I did enjoy just chatting about how things were going for each of us. I have only done it with 1 Pro, that I had cuddled with, it was nice to see her and talk to her. We kind of wondered around, talking about her little fur baby's, 3 cats and about a cat I had and how silly they can be. We talked about favorite places to eat, things to do safe during this virus mess. I would not pay some of the high prices some Pro's want to just chat, but that's just me. I have reached out to a few other's during this mess to kind of getting to know the person a little and maybe set up a meeting once we get back to normal, IF we ever do !!!!! But it's very hard to open up a line of commutation when the person will not reply back !!, I even had it happen with a few Pro's. I don't look at it as any type of a cuddle, but just some good conversation with someone that has the same interests as me about having nice cuddles.

I keep wondering how long it'll be 'til something like this goes mainstream - the hug machine! Someone really could hug you from afar in these times :)

@CuddleDuncan thank you for the info. Yes, the search function on this site is clunky and really did not turn up anything of value to me. And, yes to proper thought which is why I posted.

@waynewv thank you for sharing your experience.

@squeakytoy someone did--Temple Grandin. lol If you've never seen the movie, you should watch it. :)

@SuperSnuggler2 Oh dear lord, I just searched "Temple Grandin Hug Machine" and that thing looked like a claustrophobic person's worst nightmare  I would definitely prefer the interactive mannequin + vest setup for huggee and hugger.

(As a side note, even though I haven't seen the movie, I HAVE seen Temple Grandin's incredible slaughterhouse setups and I wish they put those practices into effect everywhere!)

    bump

  • @squeakytoy @SuperSnuggler2 - I've been told by many people to watch that movie because I am on the autism spectrum. She taught at Colorado State University about animal behavior. She says that people on the autism spectrum thinks the same way animals do and have trouble fitting in with other people.
