BREAKING NEWS FOR NEW YORK STATE PEOPLE AWAITING VACCINE

7:37 pm, today, 3/29
"March 30, all New Yorkers age 30 or older will be able to be vaccinated, and all New Yorkers age 16 or older will be eligible on April 6"

Having been through the system earlier, don't wait to be called by your primary physician or use drugstore. Make an appt the first day eligible though the NYS site for a large NYS facility. Don't pick a day with just a few openings- they'll be gone by the time you finish the application. Pick a day that has hundreds of available appointments.

As of last week you can now get a CDC phone app that will give you a certificate of vaccination with a QR code that can be read by event venues, etc after you've been fully vaccinated.

Reported, reviewed, and removed. @RockRollCuddle - this is a thread on NY and vaccinations, not political commentary. [-Sid]

  • Even if you've had COVID, vaccination is recommended since it will give you a greater antibody response if exposed again.

Is there any solid evidence that people who have had covid can be reinfected? Anti-vax opinion removed. Are there any other vaccines that this is recommended for?

There is ample, scientific, and proven evidence of Covid and reinfection. You are entitled to your body and choices, but not entitled to infect others with a virus, or with ignorance, @lets_cuddlee . [-Sid]

    @lets_cuddlee

Is there any solid evidence that people who have had covid can be reinfected?

I recall seeing a report about a couple of cases, so yes. It seems to be rare - at least in the short term - but frankly it's still quite early to tell.

The advice to vaccinate even if you have had covid is because we don't know how long the protection lasts, either from the disease or any of the dozen or so different vaccines now available. There is some concern that it may be measured in months rather than years. Vaccination is therefore the safer alternative. It will also simplify decision-making for public health authorities over the next year or two.

To put it another way, if you have already had covid there is no upside to not getting a vaccine anyway.

Are there any other vaccines that this is recommended for?

Yes. For example, MMR. It's also the case that countries that require vaccination certificates for entry are not interested in whether or not you had the disease - they only care if you had the vacccine.

I work at a hospital on weekends and we have had a.few I'm aware of personally who have tested positive, gotten better , then ended up back in hospital for a re occurence

@pmvines That is some scary shit. Welp, guess I'm staying indoors 'til summer (Toronto hasn't been doing a great job managing the vaccine supply)

  • Hmmm, so people are not entitled to have an opinion in the USA? Unless it parrots the officially sanctioned opinion of course.
Not being allowed to express an opinion is pretty much the same as not being allowed to have an opinion.
All this censorship is thin edge of the wedge stuff folks. It's the slippery slope to authoritarianism and total loss of freedom.
Let all opinion and information flow freely, and let people make up their own mind, instead of spoon-feeding them the acceptable group-think.

    "All this censorship"

Ha. Haha. Clearly, you have no idea what censorship is.

@Comfy_Arms - NO personal attacks. Final forum warning. [-Sid]

  • It would be in the best interest of the vaccine makers if we had to re-vaccinate every three months. But will we get a truly independent opinion on whether that is necessary?

As far as I know, CC isn't the property of any specific government. Altering posts that contain absurdities is entirely fair game for moderators operating on a forum.

Now, say, if CC were owned by a government, and its moderators modified posts that were critical of said government, that'd be censorship.

If Sideon were a government agent that showed up to the homes of dissenting forum-goers, kicked down their doors, and proceeded to destroy their property with heavy machine gun fire before murdering everyone inside the place—that would be super duper censorship.

I think that your problem is that the dumb garbage you place value in isn't being respected. More than that, you (and others like you) aren't being patted on the head whenever you regurgitate unfounded nonsense from whatever "news" sites you lurk. And so you cry out "censorship", when what you actually mean is "I'm scared and hurt that there's things going on that have nothing to do with me or what I hold dear! This isn't ABOUT ME."

What's more childish? Pointing this out, or whining about how one isn't being rewarded for having a tenuous grasp on reality? The latter, I'd say.

Reported, reviewed, and reminding you, @DarkLordChungus : faith and beliefs, or lack of, are personal things. Lay off with these slams, please. [-Sid]

A pseudo-intellectual chungus trying to sound smart again.
Censorship isn't just about what the government does, it can apply in other situations too.
Furthermore, you knew exactly what I meant, yet the need to appear smugly intelligent was so strong it caused you to type up a bunch of pointless garbage.

I don't lurk on news sites either, sunnyboy, because I have better things to do. Like building my new home.

I'm not scared. The fate of the world is not ultimately in man's hands, but in God's. The things that are happening were written about thousands of years ago, and I know how it will play out and how it will end.
There will come a time when you will rue not having taken an interest in the "dumb garbage that I place value in."
"there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth... "

I and my brothers and sisters speak, and some listen, but most prefer to ignore or mock.
"Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it."

I have a sneaky suspicion that on that day, you will remember this comment.

It's unlikely that I'll remember most of what you've spewed—I didn't even make it all the way through your post. When the crazy kicked in and became apparent (which was almost immediately), my brain sort of blocked what I was reading.

Well, good luck finding enough cardboard to construct a home. Watch out for demon aliens!

  • @DarkLordChungus
By the way, how would a moderator determine what are absurdities to be expunged from the discussion? Are they trained in pharmacology and immunology? Do spokesmen appointed by the government to inform the public about covid19 issues speak the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth? Governments would never lie to us, would they?
Do various experts NOT appointed by the government to speak on these issues speak only lies when they raise concerns or issues that contradict the official narrative?
Which one(s) should we listen to? Should anyone but me decide whose opinions I want to consider as I make decisions and take responsibility for myself?

    @Comfy_Arms

Sideon, and many other posters, often provide sources to studies published by health organizations and all that. You know, things written by people who know what they're doing.

It's weird, but whenever some wackjob goes on and on about "the truth", or what they believe, they never provide reliable sources for what they believe. I fully expect, one day, for some crazy person here on CC to go on a long rant about all manner of social issues, and then post a video by Varg Vikernes as a source.

Like...just because some random dude, or a group of random dudes, says a thing, doesn't mean that it's true. Or that their claim has even been adequately researched.

(Also: before you even get it out, medical professionals are not random dudes. They are medical professionals. There's a huge difference.)

  • Enough. Do not further engage. I'll clean up this thread and remove all bickering.

@Comfy_Arms and @DarkLordChungus - you are officially warned. Do not engage with each other in any capacity on the boards.

@Comfy_Arms - you're welcome to your personal opinions about Covid and vaccinations. You are not welcome on these forums to promote or inflict ignorance, anti-science, and anti-vaccination disinformation. Lay off the personal attacks. And last, this forum is not Sunday school, and as I reminded DarkLordChungus, religious beliefs are personal and should not be used to bash or antagonize differences on this board.
