Hello, dear reader. Something has been on my mind as of late. I'm curious as to how many people here believe that there is a supernatural element to cuddling—that is, an aspect of cuddling that transcends the mundane. Are the spirits of those cuddling involved in some manner? Is "energy" a factor to you, dear reader? Alternatively, do you believe there is a divine quality to cuddling?

A recently-revived thread inspired me to create this poll. Specifically, the one about healing/cuddling energy.

So, here we go!

  1. Do you believe that there is a supernatural or divine element to cuddling?76 votes
    1. Yes.

    2. No.

Lots of pleasant chemicals are released when you cuddle, flooding your brain and body with sensations that can certainly feel very deep and profound. The psychological effects can be notable.

For anything to be happening on a supernatural level, though, there'd have to be... well... a supernatural. And as much as I like the show—uh. Yeah, that's fiction.

    Cuddling sure is nice, though.

  • More than half of respondents attribute events to the supernatural? I'm not sure that I feel comforted by that.

  • Supernatural is a manifestation or event attributed to some force beyond scientific understanding or the laws of nature.

    Apparently cat cuddling saves lives.

Skin to skin contact with preemie babies and their guardians, has a huge impact on survival and development. SO MANY STUDIES!

Since studies have been done, and it's quantifiable, then by definition, nothing supernatural about it.

As to the divine, sometimes I'm taken by the idea that we found physical bodies, just to revel in the transcendence to be found in those moments.

I don't believe in spirits, or energy in that sense. I'm very scientifically minded so I have a hard time accepting that by there might be other things going on that can't be proved by actual fact, and are mainly anecdotal.

Cuddling is nice because of hormones, changes that happen in the brain and body, chemical receptors, etc.

  • A surprising amount of people said yes, interesting. While I do believe in a higher power, for most observable events, at least for events that occurred in recorded history, if we dig hard enough we can find an explanation based in scientific laws and physics.

Where supernatural explanations exists around events, the documentation tends to be of poor quality which makes rational explanation more difficult because the evidence cannot be found in the documentation even if it exists.

  • Most of us cuddlers are Angel's so yeah I could see some supernatural in there 😁

  • Only when i cuddle on mushrooms 😄

  • I don't believe that every cuddle I've been part of has divine inspiration behind it. I do believe God knows what he's doing, and I believe it's no accident that I found this site and have enjoyed the company of some wonderful men and learned to stand up for myself after a lifetime of dealing with toxic men. It's been unbelievably healing.

And when I say "God", I mean a benevolent Higher Power, however you, dear reader, understand that ❤ and when I say "he", that's just because I don't want to use "it", I don't believe God/the Universe/whatever you wanna call it has a gender :)

I believe in biological chemistry. I believe that kindness and acceptance are just as powerful as loneliness and depression. I strongly reject the idea of anything divine having any power over reality, if anything divine even exists, which I doubt.

Paranormal fiction tho, that's my jam, lol

  • Don't wanna brag, but any cuddle experience in which I'm involved is by nature divine.

    You're welcome.

  • I think certain feelings we experience during a cuddle can seem divine. I’m a big believer in energy exchange, even just used as a metaphorical term for how something affects us. A positive energy exchange, to me, is divine in origin just by its very effect. If someone else doesn’t believe in it on the other hand, they’re probably less likely to perceive their experience through a supernatural lens. That doesn’t mean it wasn’t a positive exchange though.

  • When I cuddle myself it is supernatural because I am my own god

  • Obligatory smart ass comments: I was so excited to see this thread... hoping to see cuddling with Dean or Sam or Castiel.

I am the Supernatural of your cuddles.

    Real answer: No.
I know that what is currently known as "energy transfer" does happen during cuddling, especially if the cuddlers are purposefully focusing on it. I've experienced it. I also know that the phenomena that happen during cuddles haven't been studied much. Therefore we don't have much of an understanding of what all is involved or how it works. As with almost everything that is, at first, considered supernatural, as soon as it is studied and humans have figured out how to test and measure it, a logical explanation will come to be.

I do know there is documented evidence that certain hormones are released during cuddling. I also know that a good and successful cuddle requires mutual respect, caring, and acceptance. Those are experiences that we don't get in abundance in today's society... even more so if you are a guy in America.

All of these aspects don't even take into consideration the comfort you receive with a warm body next to you as well as the positive feelings associated with giving the same to someone else. If you have a good cuddleship with your cuddle buddy, you don't have the worry and anxiety around being judged for unacceptable behavior because you've already discussed it. And, at least for me, it's a mini vacation where I get to be in the moment and shut out the rest of my life for a few hours.

I voted "no", but then I re-read the question:

Do you believe that there is a supernatural or divine element to cuddling?

I've had cuddles that were simply divine :relieved: Does that count as having a divine element?

    @MaullySterling HALLELUJAH

  • I completely believe that for something to ramp up the feel good chemicals in our brain, wouldn’t that take same energy used to rev up a car and have it firing on all cylinders such as yourself. I don’t only believe energy is involved but I believe it’s deeper and can even be transmutational...maybe the things they make us believe are phenomena are maybe the things that are supposed to be most natural...hmmm...

  • In short without details I can tell you I have benefited. Utilizing a professional here on cc my PTSD has completely diminished. I will be forever thankful to her and now she’s just a great friend 🤗❤️🤗

  • More than half of respondents attribute events to the supernatural? I'm not sure that I feel comforted by that.

@UCpaaHVg6u0, would you say that you're haunted by the thought?

  • [Deleted User]Hithere_ (deleted user)

I don’t believe in the supernatural, but recognize that there are aspects of the natural world we are not yet aware of, or know and understand very little about. So I answered yes, in that sense.

  • In the sense that reiki/energy transference is supernatural, yes I believe in that based on my own results of receiving and practicing. Not to discount the proven science of cuddling, I’m just willing to believe science and the paranormal can coexist.

I would also love to cuddle to Supernatural 😏

  • @BellaSera , I've read on forums for years that people here get ghosted :) Not sure if this is what we are talking about though.
