Do you exaggerate or over-emphasize when you describe things?

Nothing to do with cuddling but I found this article interesting. There does seem to be a trend to more extreme language but I don't believe it is restricted to extroverts.

    You don't have to go and call me out like that. :'( (sarcasm) I can get wordy and I overexplain, overemphasize when I feel passionate, or particularly emotional about something. So yeah, this is me to a tee, but I'm predominantly introverted so I'd say your point checks out. People are capable of all types of communication styles etc. whether they're intro, ambi, or extro.

    I don't overemphasize but I do over explain a bit. I'm a mansplainer. But that's not because the other person doesn't understand, but because it helps me process my thoughts better by verbalizing my thought process. Mansplaining is the process of explaining a topic to someone that already is versed in it because the explainer assumes they are not versed in the topic. However the term is incredibly sexist as I've met many women that fem-splain. Is the woman mansplaining if the explainer is a female? And what really sucks is when you watch the news and they mansplain to you. But more frustrating is when someone says "Quit mansplaining to me! I get it!" When they obviously do not get it because they clearly got it all wrong (because you CAN'T have your pudding if you don't eat your meat!) Moreover, who is to say how much explaining is appropriate? Are situations to be taken into account when measuring over-explaining?(because an object's mass increases as it approaches the speed of light and by the formula e equals MC square and objects Mass becomes infinite if it were it to ever reach the speed of light, class. Einstein stop rolling your eyes at me). On another point about the perception of over-explaining.... 😜

    I'm definitely guilty of this 😅 Sometimes it gets to a point where I feel as though I run out of words to explain how I may feel in a present moment, especially when I'm dealing with a lot of thoughts I'm trying to express at one given moment. Maybe I should start picking up some crossword puzzles haha.

    I try to make sure I don’t do that. The worst case I have ever heard of involved me. As a teenager I had to have surgery on my feet, I was in surgery for like 2 hours and sent home the same day. Well after the word got around thru the family in several different states I get a phone call, it started out with, oh my God Wayne I heard you almost died, I heard you were in surgery for over 8 hours and in intensive care for over a week. Now that is bad,, LOL.

    Oh man, if I'm recounting a story, I try not to exaggerate the details themselves but I definitely get into exaggerating the way I tell it (hand-waving, voices, etc). It's all in good fun :mrgreen:

    Huh. That's interesting. I'd never considered the etymology of "mediocre" before! In retrospect, it's obvious: it's like "medium."

    I guess I do use hyperbole after all. Not on purpose, though! I'm more the understatement type.
