Breaking thee ice

Where have you traveled? Where’s your favorite place you’ve been? I would say South Africa for me. Went on a hunting safari @ Wintershoek. Spent a lot of time at the rehabilitation center. Visited the blue hole mine. Also love Goldfield NV. Enchanting little mining town. Originally from Montana. Currently residing in NorCal. How bout yourselves?

I'm lucky enough to have been to all the continents except Antarctica.

In the USA I've been to 15 states, including DC and all four contiguous corners (but not counting the ones where I was only asleep).

Thinks: I wonder who was the first person to visit all the continents, or more significantly, when? Antarctica, Africa, Europe, Asia, Australasia, North America, South America.

Answer: on my basis possibly Captain Cook who crossed the Antarctic Circle but didn't quite discover the continent. First landing on Antarctica proper was probably 1851 by an American whaler. Google does not seem to know who did all seven first for real. Given that the British Empire had colonies on the other six, it is likely that the first person to set foot on all seven was a member of an early British Empire expedition to Antarctica. That is, it is likely that the feat was accomplished perhaps in the 1920s or so, by a cook or a carpenter with a nautical career.
