  • ASMR was common place to me as a child. Throughout adolescence and into adulthood it kinda waned. With the emergence of the videos, I now wonder if I could recreate it with help from someone. I have not been very successful at doing it on my own.

  • Ah, I don't get ASMR all that often from videos, but I find the videos relaxing nonetheless. I watch them during periods of particularly high stress, like when I'm studying for an exam, and will use them to relax while sleeping.

I have just discovered ASMR on YouTube. I have listened to a few and had a good cathartic cry. I love the variety.

I’ve experienced super relaxing YouTube ASMR vids, and some that made me go:

I picked "Never" - I don't know how common this is among the others who voted the same way, but... ASMR videos make me incredibly anxious! I'm not sure why. I've never been able to finish one.

  • Same, @squeakytoy ! They make my skin crawl most of the time.

  • Never, ASMR to me, and this is just me, But I believe that it's fake like riki or cupping ect.. But like I said that's just me, there are some that may find comfort in that kinda stuff.

@TheMidnightOwl Oh god, yes! Actually, that's a better way to put it - they make my skin crawl too. I keep wanting to look over my shoulder.

  • I love ASMR, it gives tingles and can be calming. Though I wish the tingles could somehow be stronger, maybe someday we'll get there. For anyone whose got the budget and interest for it weighted blankets, massage chair or portable massage devices could also be good to invest in. Of course not as great as the real deal, though getting ~70% value helps.

  • That stuff gives me the willies

I don't like the microphone stroking/whispering stuff so much but I LOVE visual ASMR like paint mixing, dominos falling, spinning/rotating coloured discs etc. That stuff makes me happy tappy stim.

  • @ZacRedBear Omg! 🤣🤣🤣 I completely snorted at that.😂😂

I’ve always wondered what the big deal with ASMR was. I don’t fully understand it.

I've never heard of ASMR. I googled it when I saw this thread. For those of us who voted "What is that?", could someone who is into it please explain. After looking at a couple things, I'm still pretty vague on the subject.

  • OMG!!! I had no idea!

I went to YouTube to see what this was, having never heard of this before, at all. I wasn't, like, ragingly aroused but I found it pleasantly stimulating. It massaged my brain in a weird way that I have not felt before. I'm not sure I'd do much more but if the right cuddler could do this well I would def be interested.

  • @UCpaaHVg6u0 said it perfectly. Basically a massage for your brain via pleasant audio triggers, and sometimes visual movements towards the camera to give the allusion of physical contact.

I find the good videos akin to a kind of guided meditation, and of course some delve into eroticism, or scarily, hypnosis.

Yeah, I think it is a mild form of meditation. To experience the 'tingles' you have to focus on the sounds. If my thoughts are elsewhere, I feel no benefit.

  • My first encounters with it as a child took place most often when I was being tutored in class. The teacher would come up to my desk and start checking in on how I was doing. She'd have to whisper as the rest of the class was working quietly, and all of a sudden a wave of goose pimples would move over my skin as I went into a trance state. I struggled to act normal so it would continue but I think at times the teacher would pick up on what was happening and move away. There was zero eroticism involved which is why I think some of the videos are misleading as to what ASMR is. In fact, I find eroticism to be a deterrent in my case. It's a distraction. It seemed to be sparked by direct, deliberate, whole-hearted attention. All of the added sound, texture, whispering, etc. made the hypnotic aspect of the situation more evident.

  • They creep me out

  • They make me want to scream. Or hit something. Just no.

    Give me heavy thuddy bass.
    Not brain static.
