Refrigeration (don't ask)

I'll probably take this down in a few days. If you respond to the poll, thank you!

  • Depends on what's in the mysterious container.

  • Always refrigerate , refrigeration makes everything better - ketchup / Mayo / chocolate 🍫/ cookies 🍪 😋 lol

  • I'm known for eating questionable leftovers and I say yes.

It would have to be a weird container to not specify and still have me refrigerate it.

Depends on if it’s hot out, lol.

What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, not to mention terribly, terribly sick.

Based on the available info, it should be OK to not refrigerate. However, I refrigerate everything I can. For example, sometimes people think I’m odd for refrigerating bread. But it keeps it so much fresher! I think food could have fewer preservatives if there were more refrigeration.

  • @CharlesThePoet but if it kills you, you're dead

@Maverick07 True, but no one said this game was easy…

  • I’m curious as to what is needing or not needing refrigeration, but some packages like meat or cheese might not say refrigerate, but I’m going to refrigerate or freeze them.

I’ll put some fruits in the fridge

  • [Deleted User]DarrenWalker (deleted user)

    Hmmm.

I mean, there's some stuff I refrigerate instinctively, like cucumbers and lettuce. I have no idea what the packaging says on the matter, because even if the stuff has packaging, I don't read it! Hmm. One thing I don't refrigerate is garlic. Refrigeration wrecks it.

I'd say Google the thing. "Refrigerate ____?" And then go with whatever the food blogs are saying (and if they're mixed, hey, you can probably do what you like). Refrigeration does tend to condense moisture, though, so if it's like lettuce or something you might wanna wrap it in paper towel.

Uh. Best I can do. Hope it helps!

  • Some people dont refrigerate butter . That has always been a little odd to me . I also dont understand how some restaurants will leave condiment bottles out on the tables, or coffee creamers etc. Just seems like tempting fate with freshness

  • [Deleted User]DarrenWalker (deleted user)

@pmvines: I don't refrigerate some of my butter. I keep one stick in a butter dish on the kitchen counter. Easier to spread that way!

...Restaurant condiments do strike me as tempting fate, though.

  • https://stilltasty.com is my go-to resource for questions like this.

  • @DarrenWalker I can see doing that if you use it in a certain amount of time . Growing up in the south you see it in a lot of older peoples homes especially. Sometimes it looks more like mayo than butter , all congealed and cloudy looking

  • [Deleted User]DarrenWalker (deleted user)

    @pmvines: Eeeeuuurgh.

    Thank you for that image.

  • A lot of coffee creamers are either loaded with preservatives or non dairy which helps
    Them
    Last longer at room temp

I can’t take room temp butter!

I refrigerate many things that I'm not instructed to because I live in Arizona. For instance I refrigerate anything with chocolate and all fruit. I keep my thermostat fairly high to prevent sky-high utility bills. 'Room temperature' can vary considerably.

    @UKGuy: Good point.

I was gobsmacked when I first heard that in Europe, eggs are stored in the cupboard instead of the fridge because of the differences in production practices:

  • When I’m doubt, always refrigerate! Especially if it’s hot & humid.

  • I'm a weirdo that fridgerates her bananas so who knows. 😂😂😂

  • [Deleted User]EdthePanda (deleted user)

I would say sometimes just because it depends what your eating. Like bananas for example some people like it out and about and not cold. Some people like @MissAdventurous like it refrigerated ready to put in a smoothy or eat it slightly cold. I wouldn't necessarily use the word common sense in this particular question but just depends what you know should be refrigerated or not right "away"

  • In general, lowering the temperature of food slows the rate of decay. That’s why freezing can allow storage for much longer time. However, not all foods respond well to refrigeration or freezing, so it is important to do a little research for the specific food in question.

  • @UKGuy No matter what temperature a room is at, it's always at room temperature.

  • If an oven doesn't state to not put your head in it then it's safe right? 😂

  • OMGOSH!!!! @squeakytoy You make me laugh so so so much. I am just DYING to know what the product might in fact be.

My advice..... ASK MADAME SQUEAKY TOY to pull some cards. She is phenomenal and her readings are SPOT ON 99.9 percent of the time. (except for that ONE client who didn't like the responses)

I'll just fly on out and take a look at your fridge..... I mean you are in CANADA!!!!! Certainly not like poor UKGuy and his Arizona Desert or @pmvines and that southern butter to mayo HEAT and humidity!!!

  • I refrigerate even if it doesn't tell me to if it's something that seems like it should be.
