🫂❓ ~ When you're cuddling...

...do you see lights or colors?

When I'm fully present, comfy and relaxed in another's arms... When I close my eyes and sink in... I usually see slow moving, soft light ripples of pastel rainbow hues ~ As if experiencing the Aurora Borealis on a warm day...

Then... at other times... It's like I'm surrounded by warm squishy lava lamp bubbles...

I'm wondering if this is common or if it's unique to me? 💁‍♀️

And if you don't see lights or colors, what (if anything) do you see?

Or, do you happen to experience something else that may be unique to you when you're cuddling?

I would guess that you have touch/color or emotion/color synesthesia.

Basically your sense of one thing is linked to your merged sense.

For some it is a two way merge, for others a one direction blend.

It’s fairly rare, but not disturbingly so.

There are tons of cultural references linking emotions to colors.

Green with envy, seeing red with anger, having the blues, pink with joy, etc.

  • This is what I see : /

  • @MCcuddles2 ~ I knew someone would do something along those lines! 🤣😂🤣

@CharlesThePoet ~ Oooo... "Synesthesia"!! I've heard of that but not in this context. A friend said she sees colors from music... and I've seen it mentioned somewhere on here too. I'll look into though.

Also, "It’s fairly rare, but not disturbingly so." Made me chuckle... 😄

Ok, so this wasn't me, or during cuddling. But I met this woman a few months ago. I was having dinner by myself, and so was she. I started a conversation with her and our interaction flowed like magic and we joked and talked for a long time. She was gorgeous and I loved her energy. She told me that our interaction felt like the scene in ratoullie where he tastes things and sees fireworks. It was kind of a magical moment in time for both of us. that's probably one of the warmest compliments I've gotten, and it's what this thread reminds me of.

  • @cuddles_ndream ~ Through closed eyes?

    @MCcuddles2 ~ I love that! 🎆

@MCcuddles2 trust you to say that “I see dead people”😂😂😂🫂
Also Ratatouille is my favorite movie & that scene is exactly what I was telling @cuddles_ndream about in our Chinese food thread🤩

@quixotic_life if there’s music and I’m cuddling I see hues in my mind not specific colors.
Now the weird part is if there’s only music I don’t see colors or shapes or if I’m just cuddling zilch!
But somehow music & cuddles and shades & hues appear!! this is only happened twice.

I was grateful I got to see the Aurora Borealis when I lived in Alaska, it was a mind altering experience.

    Why, thank you!

Very kind of you to say.

  • @MCcuddles2 I once worked at a Panera. I saw bread people.

Music is color and shapes to me. Emotions also have color. Some letters have color and some people's names have color when I think about them. I'm have synesthesia. I found this out on an acid trip. I was talking to a friend about music and was describing kicks as big circles that are light blue and semi-translucent. I just thought this is how everyone saw music, but what I didn't know is most people don't see music.

When I'm cuddling or being intimate, I see mostly blue in words. If I'm in an argument, the words are red (yes, I see the words spelled out as they are said to me). I've never hired a cuddler before, when I'm anxious, things just seem yellow or orange, so i'm interested to see my first session with a cuddler goes.

TBH, I’ve only ever experienced swirling or fractal closed eye visualizations (CEVs) after consuming cannabis.

However, sometimes when I’m feeling very still with someone, like it’s only me and them, and the rest of the world is blotted out, when I close my eyes I see the inside of a large gray textured box, as if I were in a library carrel, which to me represents isolation (in a good way, like being alone together) and a lack of distraction.

  • @respectful I love reading the interviews! Do you think it’s time for another one?

@Sideon this here what you said, is abso*uckinglutely on point🙌🏼🙏🏼😍
“ it is in our flexibility, not rigidity that truly expresses our strengths. The palm tree in the hurricane doesn't stand immobile, it moves with the wind. For me, it's when I'm emotionally open and vulnerable that I am at my best,”

  • @respectful ~ Thank you for that! I just love @Sideon 🥰

@nurturingman ~ That sounds so quiet and cozy... ♡

@JoyfulHeart ~ lol! I just shared that with my partner who said, "Huh. I went to Jamaica once. I saw dread people."

@Saysoh ~ What a "trip" 😉 lol! But really, I hadn't heard about seeing words in color as they're said, but it sort of makes sense if already prone and during a time of emotional flooding.

@Melomaniac9 ~ That's really interesting how it's two senses to cross over/activate the third!

@CharlesThePoet ~ Whoops... forgot to post this the other day...

So I've done a mess of googling and reading about synesthesia now, including some scientific study reports that were challenging to follow, and it's fascinating!! On the surface it seems I may have multiple types of synesthesia: mirror-touch, misophonia, and whatever the heck this other unnamed one is (I've only found one reference to it so far, as "perceptual phenomen" and it's estimated to occur in less than 2% of the population)!

My mind is being blown by the research though, and I'm having a hard time wrapping my mind around this not being nearly everyone's experience. When I first posted, I really thought I'd see all sorts of comments describing different colors or patterns. But it turns out less than 5% of the population may have one of 60+ synesthesia combinations - So few people with so many combos!!

There were a few notes in this that really resonated with me...

"Recently evaluated by a structured measure of personality (the ‘Big Five Inventory’) and by questionnaires assessing empathy, synesthetes exhibited higher levels of ‘Openness to Experience’, considered to be related to imagination and artistic tendencies, and higher levels of ‘Fantasizing’, conceptually related to ‘Openness’"

"...synesthetes’ internal world differs tremendously from what is commonly perceived by others. For instance, colors can be perceived intensely bright, ‘similar to sunlight streaming through a stained glass window’."

And this which led to the below reaction...

"...arousal also triggers synesthetic experiences in some 2% of individuals. These perceptual phenomena mainly consist of colored shapes, less commonly of flavors, smells, sounds, or temperatures, and are associated with a higher degree of trance and loss of environmental boundaries."

    !!!!
    😳 Wait! What?!
Oh no! OMG!! ~ Tmi! T.M.I!!!!
Uh... I uh... I gotta go now...
    🏃‍♀️💨... byyyeeeee!

    @quixotic_life

Yes, the research is fascinating, and the connections between perception, consciousness, and personality are as varied as individual humans.

As a quick example, just as no two people share identical fingerprints or DNA, no two people have exactly the same array of rods and cones in the eye, nor length of optical nerve, nor number of neurons in the visual centers of the brain. So, logically, no two people in the world perceive the blue of the same sky as the same shade of blue.

We are all part of a universe perceiving itself through an infinite number of faceted mirrors.

It’s boggling, and beautiful, and ultimately the greatest thing we can achieve (in my opinion) is the joyful sharing of those moments, and the kind acceptance of the gifts of others.

I don’t think I can openly respond to that last part, except to say, “Why yes! All of life’s experiences are part of the banquet.”

  • @CharlesThePoet ~ Lol ~ “Yes! Life is a banquet and most poor suckers are starving to death!"
🍸💃 And the infinite number of varied perceptions is so incredibly wild to consider! I have to be careful because if I dwell too long, I could end up in an existential rabbit hole in my mind questioning the legitimacy of my perceptions, understandings, reality, etc.
