Hugs in Other File Formats

Has anyone here experienced something that wasn't strictly a hug, but felt like one?

This afternoon, a dear friend sent me a voice message. She said that she had been thinking of me a lot, that she missed me, and that she couldn't wait to see me again. As I listened, I had a sensation very similar to how it feels to be hugged.

This has happened before with well-worded text messages too.

Sometimes, as I go through my day, I see something that strikes me as overwhelmingly beautiful, and it feels like I'm receiving a hug from the universe.

Just the right song at just the right moment...
Eating breakfast at a local hole-in-the-wall diner...
Sharing laughter with loved ones...
A knowing glance from a friend...

What hug file formats have you experienced?

Nod to @sillysassy for the idea and for encouraging me to use it. (Her very existence is a hug in .ssy format.)

  • Scent always takes me back.

Rose water reminds me of my grandmother

Musk scents remind me of my dad before he left for Vietnam.

Bathroom scents remind me of last night’s dinner.

  • @FunCartel 😂😂😂last nights dinner hhahhahhha you are so right about scents. For me the smell of baking. Warm just out of the oven bread wraps me up in memories of care and comfort. Cinnamon and nutmeg envelop me in an embrace like none other.

@JoyfulHeart what a FUN idea!!! I think it’s amazing how a little voice memo has the ability to create the warm tingles of connection. That is fabulous!!

One thing that makes me feel instantly connected or hugged without the actual touch is an inside joke. Acronyms that no one else gets. It’s that connected feeling I have with another human. I wonder if that’s because I’m silly or SASSY??

  • @sillysassy Your post is another example of what we're talking about. Your posts often are hugs.

You guys are all awesome and I truly enjoy your posts. I have experienced the message thing and even once a text did the same. I think at times when we most need it we may open ourselves to receiving them in other forms? Anywho, virtual hugs & good vibes for all.

I dreamt of singly cuddling and spending quality time with 3 people in the same sleep! To share one of them, he gave me an amazing long hug. If I recall well, with my arm around him I caressed his head, which I very much enjoyed.

Caressing someone's head while I hugged is an experience I didn't get to have in reality yet and given my limited mobility, I questioned if I could do that. So to dream of it was the icing on the cake.

Another close memory is a day I was caught in the rain and sat under a little roof. That experience had me feel not so alone anymore in terms of not having* the connections I yearned for then. So the rain and thunder helped fill the emotional void I had. I can't say enough how awesome those moments were for me. Even thinking about them put me in a better mood. I can just about say the same thing about the moon, which I am a little obessed with. 😅

How sweet! It's amazing to know we are missed by and wanted by those close to us. I have a friend who says things like that and I love that she's not only an amazing friend in general. Though that she is also fairly expressive in how she feels. I feel giving words of affirmation isn't really my forte. Though I love recieving from those close to me. Come to think of it, I want to make an effort to express similarly, so I may be even a better friend to her. 🤗

  • Oh yes. Sometimes someone says something so beautiful and genuine to me that it basically gives me the same sensation as physical affection. What a wonderful feeling.
