While I was on a long drive yesterday with a lot of time to think, it struck me that my experience with this site is upside down from most marketplaces. This isn’t a complaint at all because I’ve loved all my experiences here, but it struck me as really interesting. In a normal marketplace (say e-commerce), the seller initiates all the communication with regular emails talking about the benefits of their product or special sale prices, more emails whenever you leave an item in your shopping cart (come back for 10% off that item!), special discounts if you allow them to text you special offers, etc. Here, it’s more often the customer who visits a profile and initiates lots of communication to convince the provider to schedule a session. Maybe it’s because supply and demand is reversed here (instead of lots of e-commerce sites battling for the limited number of customers who want to buy what they’re selling, here it’s a large number of clients who want a service from a relatively small number of providers in most cities)? Again, zero complaining here because my experience with CC has been fantastic, but I’m fascinated by the question. Happy Sunday!
