In all seriousness, I would cuddle that robot as a Pro; But that robot would have to pay me at least $40 per hour, and no touching my sensitive areas.

Back in the 80s, the 2000s were supposed to be all about robots, flying cars, hovercrafts, space travel... I'd kind of love to see this in my lifetime. But then again, even if Elon's are programmed to be friendly, slow, and they're light weight, the next guy will come along and create the opposite or hackers will reprogram the Teslas. So that's a scary thought. I'm torn.
I just want to know why we're building humanoid robots, quadrapeds are much more stable and efficient! We have evolved for millions of years to have a goofy spinal column that needs constant visual input and stabilization. Meanwhile, horses sleep standing up.

I find I'm curious. I see a lot of potential hear, but I'd need a lot more specific info. On the up side, it may make a great assistant for household chores for those of us who need help. On the other hand, I would be concerned about reliability and the possibility of hacking. I'm going by sound, since I can't see. Could somebody please tell me what this thing looks like?

How about a Cuddle comfort female bot that will be capable of responding to all messages sent to her. That would probably please those that are frustrated that they don’t get any response to their messages here 🙂
@hifigeorge ~ Their styling reminds me of Olympic speed skaters and lugers. They pretty much look like androgynous mannequins from a high-end retailer that are a softened blueish-white-grey to just below the shoulder line, and shiny black from there up.
It has a humaniod androgynous look. The specific bot shown has a white/grey-ish body, its head and shoulder area are black. It also looks quite slim, like half the size of an average door. Basically like @quixotic_life described.
The following details were shown in a text image in the video: height 5'8", carry capacity 45 LBS, weight 125 LBS, arm extended lift 10 LBS, deadlift 150 LBS, and speed 5 MPH.
Though I wouldn't be surprised if in the future it started looking more human and I know what ramifications that can have. I already ocassionally get spooked* by store mannequins when I stumble upon them unexpectedly. Hacking is also definitely a major concern as it is for the self driving cars too. We shall see what the future has in store for us. Hopefully if these types of bots become widely used and affordable I think the benefits could significantly outweigh the risks.

@Big_Chris I completely agree. Humanoid is a dumb form factor for the huge majority of work to be done. Single-purpose form factors for specific jobs make much more sense than our general-purpose shape does.
I had a humanoid form factor during my last life. I'm so glad I requested a different one this time around.
Humanoid form is to to test run Mars infrastructure and get it set up before humans get there. There are things we don't know that we don't know about surviving on Mars. A humanoid robot will help us discover those things.

Yet another technology right around the corner, like flying cars and fusion power. I have my doubts. Sure, we'll have fancy tech demos, but practical everyday humanoid robots? Not likely in my lifetime.
Sooooo, nobody else finds it mildly concerning that they've purposely built this thing to be easy to out run and overpower?
Not to mention the Laws of Robotics VS unscrupulous hackers.

In Musk's case, it seems to be that he is a sociopath, and has the "This is all a simulation" delusion.
So, why not do whatever, and troll with robots that might one day destroy humanity?

When the old man in Arkansas stashes three barns full of old newspapers and rusted out Harley Davidson frames and engines we put him on "American Hoarders" and shake our heads sadly at how "crazy" he is, and how much help he needs.
So those three barns have maybe, MAYBE, a million dollars worth of stuff in them, but because a billionaire is hoarding cash (really numbers in a bank program somewhere) they are looked up to?
In my limited experience on a personal level I can assure you, all nine billionaires I have met are absolutely mentally ill.
All that said, sure, I guess there must be at least one billionaire that is well adjusted, kind, and wants the best for their fellow humans.
