How to block the public from seeing your profile?

Help! I can't seem to block my profile from the public. I've went into settings, and had both the button saying to block public users both show blue and then grayed out and both of then still show me visible to the public. I don't want the public seeing my profile. How can I fix this?

  • I don’t believe there’s any way to hide your profile. When you say “hide it from the public,” did you mean hide it from people who aren’t members of this site? This is not really a “private” site; that is, any member of the public who has not signed up to be a member of this site can look at profiles, read forum discussions, etc.

    Does that answer your question?

  • Maybe it's not a feature that's available for pros.

  • @Lovelight Is it available for non-pros?

@Cheskalina to prevent your profile from being indexed by search engines (thus prevent people from googling your profile), you can go to Settings > Privacy > Block Public Visitors.

This will make it so that only members who are logged into the site may see your profile.

This also masks your username if you’ve left karma for people with a publicly indexed page. Your username may still come up in a Google search if you’ve commented in the forums, however.

Here is what it looks like on my phone, for reference.

I just looked, and saw that I (a pro) have all of the above settings available to me. (Thanks, @BellaSera ! I forgot I even had those settings.)

  • @BellaSera thank you so much. Someone else told me to do exactly what you said but today, I did a search of myself and my profile still shows up. I don't know how to fix it? I don't mind if members on this site see me, I just don't want my profile showing up to non-members. I appreciate your help.

@Cheskalina, If I log out and Google “cheskalina cuddle,” I still see a link to your profile because Google has not updated its index yet. Could take a week or so for that link to drop off.

If I click on that link, though, I see this:

  • @Cheskalina I'd suggest after you enable the feature, refresh the page to make sure there is no glitch disabling it.

  • @BellaSera thank you for that screenshot. It gives me peace of mind. I'm starting a new work endeavor next week and don't want myself public.

  • Thank you, @BellaSera , for this useful information.

    Good stuff!

  • Yes, pros and nonptos can do it. I made sure to do it from day one. Good option.

  • It is absolutely an option. I've been forced to use it in the past, but I've found that our Mods are so good at blocking or censuring problem members that I don't feel the need to any longer.
That being said, I would think that if you want to do this as a profession it's pretty counterproductive to block yourself from potential clients. If a member starts hassling you...report, block that person and move on.
Blocking yourself ON THIS SITE limits your earning potential.

~~Personally I don't put anything on here I wouldn't want the subscribed user to see. Why would I? This is a platonic site.

  • @PaulaDahla, the OP wants to be visible to members, but hide her profile from random Google searches by nonmembers.
