First time for everything 😊

Anyone else find it awkward to drive back to a Fast Food place, when an order is wrong?

  • Check your order before leaving.

  • Just eat it. You wanted food from X, you got food from X. Don't sweat the small stuff.

  • I just accept whatever I get because I know I am abundantly blessed with access to food and the luxury of occasional fast food or meals out. While a younger me would be annoyed when a meal wasn’t what I expected, currently I accept it without investing any emotion in correcting it or fussing about it because there will be more meals. Plenty more meals and as @CuddleDuncan said, don’t sweat the small things. 😊

Once ages ago my best friend and I had dinner at Bennigans (told you it was ages ago!) and the waitress brought chicken wings and potato skins to our table. We were having a rather animated discussion and started absentmindedly eating the food…it was only til the end that we realized we ordered different apps. At that moment the waitress brought us over our order and rather sheepishly said she messed up and that was for another table. We kindly declined the correct food and she actually didn’t charge us for any of the appetizers! So sometimes these things work out for the best.

  • @Touch_You_Crave @CuddleDuncan Some people just can’t eat whatever they were given. They may ordered their food the way they ordered it for allergy or health reasons.

  • Well yes, but then going back wouldn't be awkward, it would be important.

The awkwardness only arises because you are pointing out somebody else's mistake, which is embarrassing for them, and it's embarrassing for you because the mistake doesn't truly matter, it's just a question of taste.

  • I’m sorry but if it’s 7:30 am, I just finished a 12 hour night shift, I’m craving a crispy hash brown from McDonald’s. If I get anything but that hash brown, you’re god dang McChicken right ima storm the gates and and get what I ordered! 😂

  • I guess it's all relative; if you're allergic and you need a specific item, it wouldn't be awkward at all. Or maybe if you ordered $30 worth of food but only got $5 worth. For other cases, like the others said, not sweating the small stuff is good for overall health and reducing unneeded stress.

Though, I totally understand the situation that @Sheena123 ; as long as the other party was respectful about bringing the mistake up I'd be happy to fix the order for them.

I like to think that I (sometimes) work hard for my money. Just the other day I had pizza for carry out and it was dry as carboard, but I ate it anyway. Things happen. Now, it if happened to me frequently at the same place, I'd either point it out or just stop going to the establishment altogether.

  • @sunnysideup oh yea, no, for sure!! I would summon all my Canadian-ness and wait patiently in the line up and just say “hey! Sorry, I hope I don’t tick you off but I ordered such and such and didn’t get it. Sorry for messing you up, but can I get that thing I ordered? No worries 😌 “

There’s nothing wrong with requesting your order be corrected when it comes out wrong.

There is something wrong with being an asshole about it.

You’re paying for goods and services, and it’s only reasonable to expect to get what you paid for. But one should also bear in mind that, no matter how hard your day has been, it’s possible the people making/serving your meal have had worse - and usually are paid disgustingly low wages for extremely hard work and putting up with a lot of unkindness and vitriol from customers.

So yes, ask for your order to be corrected, but do it with kindness and a smile, say something like “no worries” or “not a problem!” when they apologize, thank them and show your appreciation when they fix it.

Biggest thing to remember is that you never know what they are going through, and a simple display of kindness (even when pointing out an error) can be the difference between someone feeling positively after a long shift and crying themselves to sleep.

  • I go back for a straw, because I want to drink my drink. It's okay to be both confident and kind, when fixing a mistake. If someone is upset because of a mistake they made, that's not a reflection on you. You don't have to let them steal your joy. As a wise old friend once told me, if someone is upset, maybe they burnt their toast for breakfast that morning. Just go with that. It makes it way easier to be nice to people who are upset.

  • @JoyfulHeart oooo I like that 😂😂😂

I never drive back to a fast food place if I realize I'm missing one thing, it's just never been worth it. I did wait at my local pizza place while they remade my pizza. I ordered my usual spinach, mushroom feta. Someone (probably a new employee) didn't put mozzarella on my pizza. I guess they assumed I only wanted feta.

I've been especially forgiving though and tip well because everyone's shorthanded and of those who are working, many are new and in training or doing the job of several people.
