PSA! It's time to start thinking about Furnace Filters, Smoke Detector Batteries, Winterizing the AC

[Deleted User]ImajenMoon (deleted user)

Hey Folks!
After a few chilly nights, I've begun the slow, agonizing descent into Fall Fear and Furnace Fury! lol
Just a friendly "Handy Ma'am" reminder about home maintenance projects that we can generally handle on our own.
Changing your furnace filter (hopefully you've discovered it...If not, Youtube is a great resource!) helps your system work properly. There's NOTHING like an 11pm Service Call on a freezing December night!
Also, if the smoke detectors in your home have begun to "chirp," that's letting you know that it's time to change the battery! Some thermostats also have batteries, and it's a good idea to check those while you've got the batteries out..
As we head out of the cooling season, it's wise to GENTLY (and downwardly) spray off any lawn debris, tree fuzz, or other stuff that may have gotten sucked onto the fins of the big outdoor unit of your AC condenser unit. That stuff makes your AC work way harder than necessary---sort of like it has asthma!
I've recently discovered that I am more than fascinated by this whole HVAC thing, and am kind of excited about sharing "news we can use" with this Community! :)
Okay... I'm done. I won't go into Flame sensors, Ignitors, or Evaporator Coils, for now, because I've already taken up enough of your time!
Here's to a safe, healthy, happy, WARM Fall season!

  • Thanks for the heads up. I'll be watching out for that when I head to my new place soon :)

Please know, @cuddles_ndream, that you (and all of us!) are MORE than welcome! With everything that we're all so busy with, a well-timed reminder can save us both money AND inconvenience!
'Preciate the "atta girl," @CharlesThePoet! :)
Catloaf ( I STILL crack up at the picture of the cat looking like a comfy, aloof LOAF!! lol), congratulations!!!! A new place!!! New energy, new moves, new hopes, new accomplishments--- all of that can happen when we change our locale! :) I hope that when you're finally moving in that you stand in the middle of your new space, breathe, center, and then DECLARE, ALOUD:
"THIS IS THE PLACE OF MY PEACE. I NOW ACCEPT JOY, ENGAGEMENT, CONNECTION, AND GRATITUDE UNLIKE I'VE EVER KNOWN. HERE, IN THIS PLACE."
    Then...
Check your batteries, clean your condenser, and replace the filter on the furnace-----because you don't want any stagnant energies from previous owners/residents disturbing your new, glorious Peace! :)
    Congratulations!!!

@ImajenMoon ~ That just happened really loud in my mind!! It's so nice to see you back!!

And thank you for the reminders/additions to my to-do list for next weekend ~ 😘

    Happy Fall!! πŸ‚πŸ₯°πŸ

This is the kind of quality content I’m here for! I started subscribing to an air filter by mail service this year, so every few months new filters arrive at my door and that’s my reminder it’s time to change them. Makes it so easy!

  • They have air filter subscription services? Wow.

  • I have portable AC units(3rd floor apt) but I should probably vacuum out the filters. Thank you πŸ™

@quixotic_life ! I LOVE IT WHEN YOU "SQUEEEEEE" AT ME!!! So glad to see you, too!!! lol And trust me, adding these things to your "to do" list now will save you a LOT of headache later!
@Melomaniac9 , you are quite welcome! Many times when we take care of small things like this early, we can head off big, hairy, ridiculous stuff later. I'm ALL FOR heading off problems later with a little preventive maintenance now! lol
@Protector , I'm with @Babichev-- wow! I didn't even know that such a cool service existed! Of course I wouldn't, though, because I LOOOOOOOVVVVVE my hobby of Lowes Loitering! heehee!
@AnywhereIsHome (Your screen name gives me a wonderful reminder, too! :) ), please let us know how that goes? I opened one up, once, and was floored by the level of mossy mold growth I found within!!! Blech!!!! It'll be interesting how your project goes! No matter what, I'm hoping we prepare for the coming months... and have fat, healthy, ridiculously comfortable cuddles in our well-maintained spots! lol
