US life expectancy in 1870 was 39? I wonder what disease shortened the lives of so many Americans back then. Oh yeah, the civil war, slavery. Hate is a terrible disease, and war is its ferocious symptom. It infects our souls and kills everyone around us. Love is the cure; peace is the result. And we need to share more of that with each other. With it, we can all live not only longer lives, but better ones.
Well 1870 was post-Civil War and slavery. But it was still only 47 years in 1900. In the middle of WW2 it increased to 65. War is bad but the medical field has advanced life expectancy through several venues, not least of which how to treat shattered bodies and infections encountered in war. Triage and many aspects of crisis management that we have seen during the pandemic were the result of medical lessons learned from war.
