Any hidden gem 💎 of a treat that you order?

Never in my life have I ever been a fan of beef jerky … never knew what the big fuzz was about, & why would anybody like this gas station - dry / dehydrated pieces of meat that tasted like cardboard 😣, that is until I tried beef jerkey from Bourgeois Meat Market 🌌 🙌🏼🙌🏼

Don’t know if anyone here is from Louisiana, or around the Thibodaux area, but this beef jerkey is legend & a treasure over there, & the fact that I live nowhere near there, I have to order it online & every single time i receive it is like heaven (just received it now) … The family business has been in operations since 1891, & the great grandson of the original owner came up with the recipe in the 80’s & it was an instant hit from the very beginning … this is the epitome of beef jerkey / literally strips of juicy steaks in Cajun seasoning smoked for countless hours - the outcome is perfection!! When I was 21 maybe 22 while In virginia , a buddy of mines had ordered it & had it delivered & when he offered a piece & I ate it, it was game over lol been a customer now for over 15 years, & once every 6 months I just have to get a few several packs & enjoy it with sole nice cold beer 🍻 😋

Is there any hidden gems out there that you’re a loyal customer to & just have to have once in a while?

  • Mmm I love beef jerky. Those look delish 🤤🤤

I go to a certain bar for karaoke and even though I was working at a Mars chocolate factory and you would think I would be sick of Mars bars, nay nay my friends. This bar does a deep fried Mars bar with ice cream, whipped cream and chocolate and caramel drizzle. Sooo dang good 👍🏻

  • @Sheena123 im eating it now as we speak & I promise you, it tastes just how you think it would taste & it is just that good 🤤😋 … (think smoke & Cajun flavors)

I have to order these from a British store in California, they are so popular they are often out of stock. They aren't available at any bakery or regular store in the USA.

I had some beef jerky last fall, a guy from Australia was selling it at the farmers’ market. It was Australian style (maybe that referred to the blend of spices) and was exceptional.

My treat is the occasional order from Licorice International. They sell licorice from all over the world. I particularly like some Italian licorice I get from them. For true licorice lovers, this place is heaven.

I am also signed up with Universal Yuma. Every month I get a box of treats from a different country. I enjoy trying different things.

@Babichev - I'm a long time liquorice lover. My current favorites are Panda from Finland and Wiley Wallaby, which sounds Australian but is made in the USA. And of course I love Liquorice Allsorts. There are lots of Asian supermarkets in my area which carry products from all over the world. Some of my latest finds have been blackcurrant gummies, kiwi syrup and pear soda, the latter two from Poland.

Panda is definitely one of the best. When I was in Italy I found these little pellets of pure licorice juice boiled down. It’s really hard core. It was sold in a pharmacy as a throat lozenge. My favorites have anise oil added, made by a company called Amarelli, they are called rombetti. They also have some called senatori which have violet flavoring added. Another favorite is an Italian licorice toffee by a company called Serra.

There used to be a licorice toffee from the UK that I would find in airports, can’t remember the name but it was exceptional. It is no longer available.

Switzer licorice was made right here in St. Louis. I still love Good and Plenty.

  • Louisiana is ground zero for all culinary delights in the US IMO. So much great food. It is no secret that chefs from New York, San Francisco and around the world come here to sample the latest creations. New Orleans is easily my favorite city when I travel. I am in NOLA right now.

  • @UKGuy i just tried looking it up on Amazon & its only available in the Uk … somehow it says it’ll ship but I don’t trust it 😂 … really great reviews! 😄

@Babichev im beginning to thing that the ones that are done properly are the real deal, i would never go back or even consider Jack links or anything related.

@funcartel I grew up on Emeril lagasse … I’ve always been intrigued by New Orleans cooking … so I can’t believe I still haven’t made my way out there 🤦‍♂️ … popeyes, which is hands down my favorite fried chicken place, originates In New Orleans … I have every reason to go visit one day, hope you’re having a blast there right now!

  • @cuddles_ndream - Try BritishFoodShop.com in California to get British candy, drinks, food items etc. They tend to sell out of lots of things around Christmas time.

  • Thank you for that @UKGuy I literally placed my order just now, glad they’re in Cali can’t wait.

@Babichev you may have had biltong. It is kind of like jerky but with key differences. It was invented by the indigenous people of Australia.

  • @MCcuddles2 , I’m not sure but I haven’t seen the guy again. If I do, I’m certainly getting more! I should have saved the package.

  • @UKGuy im very impressed at how quickly I received it … about to try 1 right now

  • I love the fact that there’s a British produce shop in California! I do love a Mr Kiplings Cherry Bakewell!! @cuddles_ndream @UKGuy

  • @YourEmbraceMel it was really good, very cherry lol, now I’m curious what else I should try from that British retailer.

  • @cuddles_ndream Is it ridiculously expensive? We used to have an American Candy store here and Twinkies were extortionate!! 😂

  • @YourEmbraceMel oh are you from the uk? (Gonna peek in your profile 😅😂) I don’t remember the cost because I was so set on getting it, but I do remember the shipping price costing more than the cakes 🍰 lol … I’ve been to your side of the pond many years back … it was very brief, I was in Portsmouth & a bit of London, it was fun, i wish I did more site seeing ect but I was young & all I wanted to do was party lol, also me being a burger 🍔 person I can’t believe I didn’t check this place out - https://instagram.com/burgerandbeyond?utm_medium=copy_link

  • @cuddles_ndream Yes I’m about halfway between Portsmouth and London! That burger place looks yum! 🤤

  • @YourEmbraceMel I hope you get to try it, it is supposed to be the best in the world 😋 but unfortunately it isn’t here … so yes the regret is sooo much, but I’ve been to North Carolina & actually forgot to eat barbecue while there (North Carolina is known here to be the epitome of bbq) I was in Chicago for a couple of days & it didn’t occur to me to try deep dish pizza lol
