Also. For the record as this has naturally evolved into the irrelevant race topic... Most would consider me white, and yet I do not have the expectation - based on experience - that when police are around they’re there to help me. Not at all. And I even was one in the military. Which is one of many reasons why I have such a deep distrust of police and anyone in authority.

Also in my experience as a person who has been a victim of crime numerous times perpetuated by at least one male from each race, and not a single one of them, including the non-whites, faced any prison time or were even charged with the felony crimes they committed against me. And when I was a high school student, the male student from Mexico who was committing felony level crimes against me daily also faced no disciplinary action whatsoever from our school besides the teacher giving him “a talking to.” The physical violations continued.

There are also plenty of incidents of whites getting tasered, beaten, shot, and dragged out of their cars by police but it doesn’t fit the narrative of the media agenda so it doesn’t get any or very little coverage. As a person who worked in news media, and has a criminal justice degree who’s done many research papers on crime trends (which is perpetrated intra-racially most of the time, by far, but no one wants to look at that fact because then we can’t blame whites for everything) , I think I can attest to the factual basis of these topics since we’ve deviated in this direction.

  • No one is saying injustice isn’t done unto white people as well. It’s just factual that injustice in almost every aspect is done against POC a lot more. Which is why people like Dave chappelle have said they have issues with white people.

I’m sorry for what youve been through. I would never belittle what’s happened in your life. In my eyes, that’s more women vs. men, but it still doesn’t negate the fact that people of color were handed a shorter stick in living a better life.

  • @TheMidnightOwl i agree with soo much of what you said!!, & guys only cause we disagree in a certain subject doesn’t mean we gotta try & rip our heads off & become enemies. As a Latin person affirmative action benefits me & I believe they should do away with it, opportunities should be solely based on credentials in my eyes & not because of whatever, that’s literally taking the spot of someone deserving who worked very hard, & I’m of the believer that there’s amazing people in every single race as well as horrible people in every single race, … I don’t know, this topic could get very tricky & touchy, but those are my thoughts on that.

IMO, the race topic is not irrelevant and affirmative action exists because of the barriers to access for gaining credentials.

I understand the inclination to see these topics through our own lived experiences, but if we step outside and get a more global perspective, the fact is there are multiple systems of inequality where whites (and as @Sheena123 brings up, men) continually come out on top. The numbers don't lie.
    White
    Wealthy
    Able-bodied
    Straight
    Men
All have advantages 'others' do not.

To 'have' without effort. To benefit while others struggle for equality and equity. That's privilege. And it's what Dave was talking about.

edit: I'd like to add 'Handsome/Pretty' to that list as well...

Which is why it saddens me that so many say that each race is equal. It’s not. It’s really really not and if people keep ignoring that, it’s going to recede back to the way it was years ago. We have to acknowledge that white people are the main antagonists. If we keep saying “nu uh. Other races do it too, not just us”, it’s only going to get worse.

As much as I don’t like a lot of what Dave Chappelle talks about, I’m not going to be angry that he along with many other people of color feel uncomfortable around white people.

Here’s a checklist. Most races might be able to check off one or two but guaranteed, if a white person is honest with themselves, they will be crossing off each thing on the checklist. This list shows everyday examples of white privilege.

  • And I honestly don’t think that comedians should be able to say whatever they want. There is a way to express comedy without attacking groups. I know people were saying that Dave supports LGBTQ+, however, a huge amount of people from that community are deeply angered and no one has the right to tell them how they should feel. There’s even a particular group of black homosexuals that felt targeted by his show. Free speech doesn’t include free to be homophobic, racist and prejudice. Find another way to exert comedy because the only people who find it funny are those that choose to ignore that homophobia and racism exist.

Not a comment on the topic you raised in your question, but a gentle suggestion for when you create a discussion: Give your discussion a title that lets us know the topic. "Let's have a discussion" tells us nothing about the topic. A title like "Homophobia/Transphobia in Dave Chappelle's new special on Netflix?" would be much more informative. Not to make fun, but can you imagine if every discussion in the forum were titled "Let's have a discussion”? I'm making this suggestion now because I remember other discussions you've started with titles like this. Just a suggestion to make the forum more engaging, informative, and searchable.

  • @Emma you nailed it perfectly. my views are spot on with yours. Its called comedy for a reason. If you dont like a comedian don't listen to them. simple. But people love to be outraged about everything nowadays so......

@quixotic_life as a white person I don't suck. you may feel you do, but thats on you. but don't include us all. because people of all different colors and races "suck" . I judge people by their actions not their skin color. just my 2 cents

    @RockRollCuddle & @cuddles_ndream
    👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

Some of us have apparently forgotten what Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. said… “I have a dream that all will be judged not by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.”

Bashing all members of any race, even your own, is racist. Also, this topic wasn’t relevant because we were talking about Dave Chappell making jokes about gender, which is a completely separate topic than race. And both of which I am so utterly exhausted of hearing about and tiptoeing around discussing lest somebody get offended. We all need to mind our own business in life and stop being outraged over everyone else’s opinions and demanding they be punished for not thinking exactly the way we do. Only privileged people of any race, gender, and SES have the time and energy to bicker about such nonsense.

  • We all need to mind our own business in life and stop being outraged over everyone else’s opinions and demanding they be punished for not thinking exactly the way we do.

Seems that you are ignoring your own advice by coming on a thread with a topic (gender) that annoys you and trying to suppress it.

  • And with how rampant and horrible this homophobia, racism and prejudice is, it absolutely should not be something we just ignore. It’s something we have to be outraged about and try to talk about and fix or else it will never be fixed. You can’t throw peoples feelings under the rug and go “then don’t watch it”. Remember, people who do watch it and love it, may end up spreading that hate in their daily lives. It’s happened plenty of times. So whether Dave Chappelle is doing it sarcastically or not, a lot of his viewers may take that and run with it, treating transgender folks and anyone else like garbage because it’s “so funny”.

Heaven forbid people care about other peoples feelings and learn to better themselves and understand what others are going through. 🙄

Yes there is racism in the United States and it is almost all directed toward whites. Every institution is anti-white. The current president administration is racist towards whites. All the the current political prisoners are white. All the job discrimination is against whites. All the hostility in education is against whites. All the main stream media is racist towards whites. All the entertainment and advertising industry is anti-white. There are thousands of books published every year slandering whites. Go into a bookstore and see all the titles prominently displayed in the front. Slanderous, vicious, racist, anti-white propaganda. Even whites are brainwashed and propagandized to hate their own race.

Careful, @snugbuddy - Comments such as these get flagged for potential flame wars. Your perspective and opinion are NOT universally experienced. [-Sid]

  • And that's a wrap.

Thanks for playing the "how many times can a thread get flagged before it's closed" game.
