Self-care

I'm having a self care day. 😊

I've driven two hundred miles this week running errands and I also did approximately sixteen loads of laundry. πŸš™ πŸ‘š

Today, I laid in bed past 9 am like a sloth, doordashed breakfast and iced coffee, did my skincare routine, sat in the sunshine in the woods behind my house and watched the deer, played on my phone, painted my toenails, and taken a nap. β˜• 😴 πŸ’… 🦌

What do you do when you know you need a break?

  • Self-care for me consists of road trips that lead me to mountain scenery and/or cuddle sessions. For general maintenance, it's time spent with my closest friends over a meal or coffee, or maybe a walk together.

  • πŸ‘† That sounds wonderful. I adore mountain scenery. I live there and can't ever get enough of it.

  • Awesome post!! & your self care is πŸ”₯!

For me self care would be sleeping in / zero alarm clocks ⏰/ & waking up when my body wants to wake up, not having to work or commitments for the day / if its raining outside even more perfect (something very calming about 🌧) ordering in - finding something very nice to watch & music …. A veryyyy lazy day & if I wanna go out & about either movie theaters for 🍿 (this is a great escape for me) & a favorite burger spot afterwards or similar

  • Oooh yes, the movies too. Or Netflix at home.

  • @Mela_B ~ That sounds delightful!!

I'm new to the whole, 'intentional self care' thing, but last night I went for it and wrote the following to my manager and supervisor...

"Do we have, "Self Care Days"?

"Either way... May I please have tomorrow/Friday off?"

"I'd just like a day to get some things done that are hard to deal with after work or on weekends."

"Plus, it's pouring down rain and allowing myself to stay in my warm cozy bed for a few extra AM minutes sounds like a thing I should be trying to accomplish..."

And OMG!! They both said yes!!

Though I kinda messed it up for myself...

I had to go in to turn off my alarm (I have split jobs and I have one set so I'm not late to transition). I justccouldn't handle how annoying that would be to everyone, so I went in before anyone else would be there, turned it off, then came home and crashed for an additional four hours! So nice!! 😊

  • I think I'd slept for a week if I could.

  • @quixotic_life wow, go you!!! That's incredible, honestly. I'm sorry about your alarm, but I'm glad you had the day off! 😊

  • @frogtide I am right there with you, I LOVE sleeping. 😴

  • @Mela_B 16 loads of laundry???

  • Self care for me is mainly just spending quality time with my Wife and or cuddling with my doggy daughter.

  • @Mela_B that sounds like a really great day!! Self care for me is usually a long hike into the woods by myself. Here’s where it gets a little weird .. I have a favorite trail and sometimes I climb my favorite tree and sketch up there.

  • @Morpheus yes, I have a lot of clothes πŸ˜‚

@Nature_Lover_ that's not weird at all! I live in the forest, and I love being there.

  • @Mela_B @Nature_Lover_ So settle this. Does a bear sh@t in the woods or does the bear come to town with reading materials to use the bathroom at Starbucks?

  • Bears def πŸ’© in the woods. Along with everything else. πŸ˜‚

For me it’s definitely hiking back to a quieter stream with the fly rod and fly fishing myself back to 100% percent.

  • @Mela_B - I will usually try to get some extra sleep, get a massage, facial, or pedicure, maybe grab some carryout from somewhere. πŸ˜ŠπŸ€— Sounds like you had a nice time!

  • I enjoy doing a spa day, myself... Hair cut, facial w/ skin detox, paraffin hand treatment, and massage... ending it with some cuddles would definitely be better, though. :) <3

  • Getting pampered is my favorite form of self-care. Whether it's getting a massage and mani/pedi or something more simple like a long hot bubble bath with wine, candles, and relaxing music.

  • @saltyvet0621 I love fishing! If I can fish for rainbow trout all day in a quiet spot in the sunshine, I am happy with life.

@DimpleGirl, that sounds like a good day!

@jaswbrown cuddles make everything better ☺️

    @bekah_cuddles oooh, now I want a bubble bath 😏

@Mela_B well I’m a certified guide so I could definitely help ya out with it!

  • @saltyvet0621 That's awesome! Do you do it for a living?

  • I generally catch up on sleep at the weekend. Last year I decided to take up shooting again. I learned to shoot in school (in the South of England, BTW. Excellent school) but haven't done much since. Bought a kit and built my own AR-15 and have been taking classes at a local range. I won't say it's therapeutic, but it's very different to every things else I do, and they say a change is as good as a rest.
Surprised the hell out of my wife, though. She lives 1300 miles away (separated 8 years, not divorced) and came to visit over the summer. UPS delivered a box of ammo, and I knew she'd be curious, so I opened it in front of her. I told her it's good for hand-eye coordination and reflexes.

@Mela_B Nope it is just a hobby of mine since I was young I turned into a side hustle for some extra cash.

  • That's really cool 😎

    Thanks!!!

I go to a huge used bookstore down by the shore.

  • @WriterGF I have a severe addiction to books. I'm running out of places to put them. πŸ“™

  • @Mela_B My whole apartment floor is littered with books on Feng Shui.
