  • Is ā€œheart brokenā€ in this thread strictly regarding relationships? I’ve had 1 girlfriend in my life, I married her and we have an amazing relationship so I haven’t felt heartbreak in terms of a relationship. I’ve been broken hearted in other way through. For me, the worst heart break has been my pets that have passed away over the years. I’ve lost family members and friends but my pets are my babies and losing them was very hard to deal with.

  • @Morpheus > Is ā€œheart brokenā€ in this thread strictly regarding relationships? no

  • I've experienced my share of heartbreaks (and 2 divorces) and blamed myself for every one of them. With each heartbreak, my depression worsened. As my second marriage fell apart, my wife and I (since we were at least good friends) encouraged each other to see therapists. I eventually sought In-patient therapy, realized that I had been loving my partners without loving myself, and my entire life changed. I started to acknowledge my own needs and boundaries, and rekindled friendships with people I lost touch with over the years (to include a couple of childhood friends). I no longer needed to be in a relationship for the sake of being in a relationship, and I became SO much happier and healthier knowing that. My friends (and my adult kids) had noticed a significant change in my self-esteem, and I had even befriended nearly all of my ex's (completely platonic, LOL). I've dated since my 'revelation', but I've yet to find a woman with similar needs, interests, etc... And while I'd like and hope to find my 'forever love', I'm happy to meet people with the intent to build wonderful friendships.

  • Mine is. Again.

I went through most of my life without it happening and never knew why people get heartbroken, but probably because I never let myself love anyone or let things go long term. But when I did it was bad, like can't function bad. But the saying that time heals all wounds is true. you might always have that scar but you move one to bigger and better things. So I'd say to anyone heartbroken to just move on, take a cool vacation, see a shrink, get a dog, just find your own way to move on because it's all you can do.

  • Yes. Many more times than once. Still going through it.

  • Friday before last, my friend died from probable Covid. 84 years old, also my landlord for the past 8 years, and actually more like a parent to me. I had erected the sukkah this year as usual, and probably inside there was where he contracted the virus from another who was eating there and was later known to have Covid. My friend had been a patron of Dr Mercola, the prominent anti vaxxer who sells fake Covid remedies and garbage science to those caught up in distrust with actual science. I spent the last several months arguing with him, trying to convince him to get vaccinated. He would print out Mercola's lies from his blog, and I would try to bust all the false claims and repair the mangled science. The last time I saw him I helped him take the Covid nasal swab, and I dropped it in the FedEx box. That seemed like a battle won. I called him at 2:30 to see if he had set up the account for the results. According to others, he became extremely tired thereafter. By 4:30 the EMTs arrived and declared him dead. I'm sure this isn't the kind of heartbreak that OP was thinking of, but it's heartbreak nonetheless and it's bitter, considering the root of it. All too common these days. It's like I want to say I told you so, but it's also the last thing I wanted. Everything is gray and sad, and though I shoveled dirt onto his pine box, it still doesn't seem real and I feel somewhat numb, trying to get some spark going in my life but going through the motions. Losing romantic love is completely alien to me, and judging by how difficult it is to let go of an old man, it must totally suck when one is also tangled up in that kind of web.

some of us are better single

  • @mistic233 I think you may be right. I think that of myself sometimes, but there are also moments when I like the idea of being someone's person.

In the meantime, I look for healthy outlets for my heart full of love, and am careful to treat that heart with the same love that it gives others. Cuddle sessions are one of the ways that I do that.

  • I definitely had it couple of times, however it got reduced when I stopped expecting from others and found joy in giving whatever I could.

  • Just recently yes, hurts.

  • I always see it in others when it hurts, but when I experience it very hurts.ā˜ļø but it was a lesson for me in future I expect the person to leave me.
