It's rare that we get a glimpse into someone else's conversation, especially between men of high achievement. I thought it might be valuable to share their discussion, so that we can glean some lessons on navigating our differences with each other. The common ground on which these men placed their footing, was finding peace, and they had a lot more at stake than we do.

    @cookiecrumb We've seen how war provides incentives and rewards to individuals who propel it, in the forms of money, power, and prestige. There needs to be interference with these payoffs if we ever hope to get leaders to act towards the peaceful best interests of all. Similarly, eliminating the payoff for any bad behavior is how we try to regulate at lower levels of society. Here we ostracize and ban people. That they might return in another guise is a problem yet to be solved.

    @cookiecrumb , thank you for that link. Two of my favorite men - Einstein and Russell - hashing it out and a third on the side, Niels Bohr.

    What is especially impressive it Russell’s commitment to wording their manifesto in a way that did not insult or favor any particular group. They saw that human life itself was in peril and that no one could win a nuclear war.
