Role playing games

Not really a cuddle based question, just curious to see how many fellow nerdy people are on here? Hehe.
Anyone play role play games here?
Dungeons and dragons? Etc.
for Halloween my friends and I played a one shot of a game called ten candles. Was a very dark horror game where the premise was to play with the hopes and expectations that your character would survive, but in the end it turns out to be a tragic story where everyone dies.
Rather than like in dungeons and dragons where there is one person doing a lot of the narration, the story is told by all the players and as the end gets closer you slowly lose narration rights. It was such a perfect Halloween event and I’ll probably be making it a yearly thing since there are several storylines you can follow 😍
And I’m currently in a campaign playing d&d fifth edition. My character is a elf/monk. On our 5 or 6th game over the past few weeks and it’s been such an amazing thing to look forward to each week.
Last night we fought a witch type woman, who had gems that animated inanimate objects. She put the gems in two scare crows and we had to battle them. One of my party members had one of those gems as well, and put it in a freaking portable restroom and the portapotty came to life and started attacking us as well! 🤣. We ended up having to fight and kill that too, lmao!! All was a success though I burned it down to the ground with a torch from my pack as “he” gurgled in pain and turned to ash & soot. it surely made for tons of laughs.

Would love to hear others experiences if anyone has some to share! 🥰🥰🥰🥰

    @quixotic_life it’s so much fun!!! A huge mood setter for spooky season!
    The game master lights ten tea light candles and blows them out as each “scene” is finished as they represent the time line. It’s basically like playing and creating your own horror movie 🤓 definitely recommend! I played online with people as a player, but hoping next year to be the game master and playing with a few people in person. I feel like the vibe would be so much more intense in a dim lit room and having everyone in person 🤩

    I am a player and novice DM for D&D; I've GM'd Hero Quest and knock offs.

    I might incorporate that 10 candles into a module or even a side-quest within a dreamworld/nightmare realm.

    Duuuuude!!! Role Plays are my nerd language lol

    Never played DnD(though I'm open to learn someday) but the RP's I've been involve writing & imagining more so then the typical gaming structure. Basically all parties involved, whether it's 2 or as many as a dozen, are writing a story together & you got the characters everyone can write for to fill out the world, but then there's the characters you pick or create (depending on if this is a world that already exists ot not). On open forum's like these, there's usually a character limit depending on who created the RP or whatever.

    For example. What I'm about to post down below is from one of the RP's me & a friend like to play together. There's this Marvel DC crossover RP we do where one of my characters is Spider-Gwen/Gwen Stacy. The following is a flashback "scene" I wrote for my character prior to her dawning the costume for the first time.

    15 years earlier...

    An attractive couple met infront of their daughter's bedroom door. The dad was dressed in his cop uniform, ready to go, while the mother was casually dressed in a pair of jeans and grey sweater. She held a thermometer in between them & eyed her husband. "It's normal.."

    They both shared a glance before the dad knocked and stepped inside where a little blonde girl was tucked beneath her blanket. "Gwen." The dad said. "Common. You have to go school. This is no time for games, young lady."

    "But I AM sick!" The little girl insisted. "Listen." Gwen held a fist infront of her mouth for a few coughs. "See? Now you have to stay home where it's safe & take care of me!"

    "'Where it's safe'?" The dad repeated as he looked at Gwen's mom. Both parents could tell they were on the same wavelength of understanding now. "Alright..." he sighed, then took a seat on the edge of his daughter's bed. "Must be pretty scary to think about, huh? Daddy's job. How long I'm gone some nights." Gwen didn't say anything. Her head remained down as he was nailing where her latest stunt was coming from. "But I wouldn't do it, if it wasn't super important."

    "What if you get hurt???" Her big eyes looked up at him. "What if Whiplash attacks again & you're one of the cops there?"

    "Then Iron Man can take him down again. Your daddy's brave, not dumb." That last bit finally earned a chuckle. He placed his hand on her. "Daddy gets scared sometimes too, but you know what gets me through the day every time I go out there? I know that no matter what, whenever I come home, waiting for me is your baby brother... and the two toughest girls in the world!!!" In the doorway the mother smiled before he continued. "Makes your daddy feel pretty invincible actually."

    "Invincible all over?!"

    He laughed at Gwen's comment. "Yep! I feel strong here." The dad touched her arm. "Right here." His hand rested over her heart. "Right there." His finger booped her nose, forcing a sudden smile out of her. "Aaaand riiiight HERE!"

    All of a sudden the little girl burst into laughter. "STOP IT!" Gwen giggled, but it was too late, the tickle monster had been released!

    I'm honestly even thinking about doing a Gwen fan fiction based off this flashback alone but I haven't committed to anything yet. 🙂

    I’m invested already 😍😍😍 you should totally write a fanfic I bet it would be a huge success!!! Thank you so much for sharing!!
    While marvel/dc is so popular, I didn’t even think about doing RP based off it!! I’m sure that’s a huge thing too! I’ll definitely have to give it a go sometime!

    I have been playing DnD 3.5E for years with my brother and a couple friends of ours, and I’m never not excited for an opportunity to play! As a forever DM, I’m always thinking of new characters or story ideas to add to our campaigns. Over the years, we’ve added so much homebrew material that what we play is barely recognizable as DnD, and I’ve actually been writing my own system called Seed of Eden which takes elements from free-form systems like GURPS with a class-based progression system similar to DnD. Needless to say, if geekiness were a disease I’d be down with the sickness.

    But that’s rad! Always fun to add your own styles into it! Gives an opportunity to be extra creative! I’ve played with a few different DMs and it’s cool to see their different play styles and how they incorporate stuff. A lot of sessions I’ve played wouldn’t really consider it to be regular d&d but had a lot of the same rules and general game play, but the theme was totally different and some of those were the most fun! 🖤 overall think it just matters that you’re playing with people who are invested in playing and getting connected to your character.

    My D&D days started in the mid 80s, after initial release, but before 2nd edition came out. Fast forward to a first job at a Hobby/Toy store where ALL my earnings went towards the manuals and modules, and a good 20 solid years of monthly DMing and running Greyhawk, Forgotten Realms, and Planescape. I'm looking at a 50 pound box that I've had sitting in a closet and wondering if I should sell the entire collection on Ebay...

    The Whitewolf/Vampire the Masquerade campaign I played was one of the most memorable. A friend ran it, every other Saturday, sun up to sundown for a year. We went from hunted, Embraced (clan Toreador, represent!), to reclaiming our humanity. Story telling, for the win.

    Good times.

    I love 10 Candles! I'm a big fan of a lot of story games (Especially PBTA like Monsterhearts, Bluebeards Bride, Masks, etc)
    For more traditional RPGs I've played D&D, Iron Kingdoms, Shadow Run, (Insert most White/ WOD games here), Cyberpunk, Call of Cthulu, Unhallowed Metropolis, etc
    Now and days, I mostly play one-shot or 3-5 session campaign storygames because getting adults together to play a game is like herding cats

    I've played and ran quite a few TTRPGs (and even LARPs)... My big 2 are D&D and World of Darkness (mostly Vampire)... ( @Sideon - Hell yeah! Clan Toreador!) Right now, I'm running a Cyberpunk Red game for friends... I'm usually the guy who ends up running games, but I ABSOLUTELY love when I get to play... :grin:

    I play Magic the Gathering. They recently had a crossover with D&D allowing players to devlve into a few dungeons. I really enjoyed it ans considered creating a character in D&D. Probably paladin or Cleric

    That's an HP Lovecraft table top game that I really dig. Settlers of Catan is fun and easy

    I also get the hunt a killer game each month to solve mysteries and what not.

    I’ve never played a role playing game. It sounds like it could be fun but I’ve not been drawn to actually do it.

    Role Playing Games is all about storytelling.

    It's 3D Pictionary. It's Charades - with backgrounds, characters, story lines, and plots. It's competitive or cooperative. There's dice rolling and keeping track of various points as stories progress. Or digress. Or collective messes. But there's an "ess" in there somewhere.

    My family has always been big into DnD, played all the editions. Even though 4e wasn't popular, we're also big MMO players, so we enjoyed that edition quite a bit as well, since was quicker to get our PC gamer friends in on some sessions.
    I'm also a big fan of Shadowrun, have all the editions of that too. Sad "the year of the shadowrun" was over promised and under delivered most epically :-(
    I'm a terrible improver and writer, so I was never very good and has deterred me, but I still collect a lot of the material. Always enjoyed how good my brother, cousin, and others were at DM'n though.
