The best thing in my opinion is to just talk to your regular doctor and go from there. They can usually advise you on medications and therapy or at least refer you to someone who can. Depression is difficult and there can be many different factors at play. If you feel better whilst cuddling it could be a hormonal imbalance - or like others have said, lack of certain vitamins, lack of sleep, medical problems and challenges in life can all cause depression too. It's best to rule out other disorders as well, as anxiety and other issues can either present as depression or cause the depression you're feeling to be worsened.

  • I wonder if you spoke with your GP (Général Practicioner) that would be a good place to start. Meanwhile if you can't access that at the moment... there are depression hotlines that could help point you to the right directions. Or community support.

Secondly, I am sorry you're experiencing this! I understand what it feels like to feel okay one moment and the other to be in some forms of emotional darkness. I've got checked and ... I've trouble accepting reality or the way things are, so yes. Anyways. I do think having simple goals to look forward to and trying to do ever so different thing each week as simple as seeing a new place or learning something new can help me. Whatever your interests are and expanding that a bit more. Meditation helps me too and there are stuff about depression and how to overcome that you can watch on YouTube which do help you have various perspectives on things. Nonetheless, you do need support from friends/family/healthcare practioners etc. You will learn to cope well and who knows perhaps even overcome. Don't ever feel alone in this, we all have our moments and some of us go through the same spectrum that you are so we will support one another. You just find the people who can support you when it's your turn. :)

Speaking of petting... have you considered getting a pet or two?

I read that petting at your friend's didn't really help. Though sometimes different kinds of pets can help and actually having one might help in ways like having goals and getting up to take care and play with them? Just thoughts. :)

Also tunning out negative news especially on TV is a good thing I'd think.

  • shironeko,
i think what @StarFlower suggested is sound advice and would add going to a program or support group for depression so you could relate with other struggling with the same things.
reaching out for help is the first step, please get help and services so you can learn the tools and coping skills to manage living with depression.

this is a very supportive community, its endearing how everyone is looking to help, i think it's what the essence of cuddling is about; no one should feel alone for any reason.

I have depression, social anxiety, PTSD, agoraphobia, OCD, anemia, and many other physical, emotional, and mental disorders. So I can understand where you are coming from.

Personally, I use creativity as an outlet for my various disabilities. For example, writing, art, music, photography, crafting, film, dance...I do all of these things to help cope with the things I go through.

It also helps to have dedicated places/ people to talk about your various conditions with. And I also take a lot of supplements that help regulate certain things.

But this is different for everyone. You should definitely get the advice from a professional in this matter.

I can tell you that I relate to what you are going through and I am here if you need someone to talk to. :)
