Popcorn 🍿

When you pop popcorn in the microwave, do you hit the popcorn button or do you set it for a certain amount of minutes?

  • I haven’t made microwave popcorn in probably over 20 years

  • Don't microwave popcorn. Get a hot air popcorn popper. That's the kind they use at the movie theaters.

  • 2 and a half minutes and don’t forget that after a bag of popcorn is done popping, there’s a little slit at the top of the bag made for you to shake out the unpopped kernels before eating. 🍿

  • @Sheena123 i never knew this!!!

  • @Morpheus why not?

@Mike403 which kind of popcorn do you use for the hot air popper? Is it ok to put microwaveable popcorn in there

@Sheena123 do you re-pop the kernels that didn’t pop?

  • You should find it in the same aisle the microwave popcorn is in.

    Pop Corn by Gershon Kingsley
    Music to Moog By (1969)

  • @cuddles_ndream I don’t think so 🤔 you can try!

  • @cuddles_ndream @Sheena123 - Kernals pop because the pressure inside them gets too great causing them to explode. When any doesn't pop, they are likely damaged(have a hole) letting air escape from them so they will never pop.

  • @Mike403 ah that makes sense ! The more you know 🌈

@Mike403 is quite right. I tested this, a long time ago. The occasional one will pop eventually, but most of the unpopped ones will never pop.

  • Unpopped kernels are popcorn too. They are just challenged.

  • @FunCartel You really are doing the lord's work by raising awareness. Thank you for your service.

Lol what does this have to do with cuddling?

When I bought microwave popcorn, I’d set it for about 3 mins and listen for the 2 sec increments between pops to stop it, but mine is only 700 watts. I saved the unpopped kernels and once I had enough of them I’ve been making those in the instant pot. Getting them in bulk to make that way is also my preference now so I know what’s in it. No preservatives and I control the salt content.

  • @Mike403 ty, i remember passing by it several times at the supermarket isle

    @CuddleDuncan groovy

@TheMidnightOwl lol, I feel like the popcorn setting is too much (around 2 minutes) I feel is best to stop around the 1 minute & a half mark or right when you hear the popping slow down. It came out perfect that way, a few kernels were left sacrificed & unpopped. I wonder how many watts is my microwave 🤔

  • My microwave is 700 watts which is weak so about 2.5-2.75 minutes and no less is how long it takes in mine. I’ve never used the popcorn button so idk how long it goes. Most microwaves are closer to 1000 watts. There’s often a label on it somewhere.

  • @TheMidnightOwl which brand of popcorn 🍿 do you pop?

    Hahah love this thread.
I used to dislike popcorn because I always had trouble timing it and making it right. Seeing all the comments of how to accurately make it puts a smile on my face.
Just recently I got a defected box, and the hole in the bags was huge, ended up only popping less than half the bag, and the ones that did pop got extremely burnt 😤😤

I love it now that I can time it right, add that extra butter, and even got a cheesy powder that I personally find to be incredible 😍

  • I’ve burnt popcorn recently using the microwave button so now I listen (I don’t do much microwave popcorn and never had a microwave growing up)

    As for enjoying the popcorn….

Popcorn prepared however you please + olive oil + garlic powder + cayenne pepper + nutritional yeast = new level unlocked

lol ty @Brandi , the popcorn from yesterday (on the picture above) came out delicious 😋 … the closest popcorn to movie theater popcorn … I went to the store just now & they only have pop-secret , my nephew told me that’s hood popcorn 😅😂 i went to the 2nd store and again only pop-secret … thankfully I have 1 more Kirkland left

  • How long it has to be cooked in microwave, I'm I'm lasy to cook 😁

  • @Ahmedali999 Me too bruh, I almost took @Mike403 advice but than thought it was too much effort 😂 … so I bought another bag of microwaveable popcorn 🤣

  • @cuddles_ndream pop secret isn’t bad!
But Kirkland is just amazing with all
Of their products, definitely has a leg up in my opinion as well hahah

  • @cuddles_ndream I get it in bulk from Sprouts. No brand name. ha

  • @TheMidnightOwl wow you really like your popcorn 😮😝 do you add butter 🧈?

  • @cuddles_ndream

In bulk, meaning it doesn’t come in a package or box. You scoop the unprocessed kernels into your own bag and pay by the lb or oz.

Nope. Just a few dashes of salt. I pop it in coconut oil in the instant pot so it’s already oily.

  • I use the microwave button now. When I was younger and not living it the US it was the stove for that because no one had microwaves in that country then.

  • At a previous workplace we had such a problem with burnt popcorn (that smell!) in our kitchen that management wanted to ban it altogether. We ended up with a policy where you could microwave popcorn only if you left a $20 security deposit with HR before making it. If you burnt your popcorn you lost your deposit. Few people continued to make popcorn. But nobody burnt popcorn after that policy.
