How many languages can you speak?

I find languages to be incredibly interesting and have dabbled in quite a few, but have never become fluent in one besides English.
I recently started learning Hindi and it's been a lot of fun (and hard)! I've really enjoyed having some light language tutoring during some of my sessions, it feels like it brings us a bit closer in a more intimate way <3

So! How many languages can you speak and have you ever exchanged languages during a cuddle session?

    English and Urdu/Hindi fluently.

    Spanish, medium fluency. But I rapidly become fluent again with a little immersion.

    I understand French, since the words and the grammar are borrowed from both Spanish and English.

    Russian is a language I would like to learn. And chinese of some variety too. I was pretty good with japanese 12 years ago, able to talk about stuff and joke and get around and do everything I needed to, but I've lost an awful lot of that.

    I learned a little korean but I found I didn't enjoy it too much. Kinda like french, I didn't enjoy that language enough to want to continue. I hear a lot of korean these days though as I seem to watch a number of korean shows on netflix. Perhaps one day I will pick it up again when I have more time and gain interest.

    I have 3 employees that speak 4 languages fluently.

    1 speaks English, Armenian, Russian and Spanish
    2nd speaks English, Armenian, Arabic and Spanish
    3rd speaks English, Vietnamese, French and Spanish

    Amazing me to think someone can actually speak 4 languages fluently.

    I’m a native English speaker. I’ve studied French, Spanish, and Italian, was moderately fluent in both Spanish and Italian but I’ve mostly forgotten them from disuse. However, if I’m put into a situation where they are being spoken, it starts coming back. The problem is that I get the Spanish and Italian words mixed up and that’s a bit frustrating.

    i speak fluent Hebrew besides my main English i know some German a little Spanish as well cause i got 3 Latino son in laws and my late husband spoke Hebrew

    I know a tiny little bit of Spanish, German, Mandarin Chinese, Japanese, and Korean.

    I'm learning Hindi now, and I hope to learn some other Indian languages after that! I have not decided yet, but I do have friends that speak Punjabi, Gujarati, and Kannada so that might be a good place to start. I am also curious about Telugu, Tamil, and Urdu. I definitely need to take this one step at a time though, haha.

    I am fluent in English and American Sign Language (ASL) and I’m what most people would call fluent in Spanish and French, though I call myself conversant because I hold fluency to a high standard. I am fluent enough in Spanish to be a pretty effective trilingual interpreter in settings that include at least one Deaf person who signs ASL, at least one hearing person who speaks Spanish, and at least one hearing person who speaks English. As a singer, I’m familiar with Italian. I’ve also sung in German and understand some of it since I’ve studied the meanings of the words I’ve sung. I’ve studied Hebrew as a Jew, and I learned several Japanese words and phrases when I practiced a Japanese sect of Buddhism. I interpreted a Portuguese course for a Deaf student, and taken together with all the other Romance languages I’ve studied (I also took a Latin course), I understand Portuguese pretty well.

    I have a friend and cuddle partner I met here, and we sometimes speak Spanish with each other, a little bit while cuddling … está bien? (is this good?), cómo te sientes? (how are you feeling?), dame un fuerte abrazo (give me a big hug), acurrúcame (cuddle/snuggle/spoon me), etc.

    British English and American English, French, some Italian and German. I watch soccer on the Spanish TV channels a lot and so know all the Spanish football terms. I wish there was a French or Italian channel but alas there isn't.

    When I come to the UK I spoke 0 English funny moments
    1 time there was a boxing class, i saw personal trainer and his students. When I saw the 🥊boxing bag I got excited and started punching it,
    The personal trainer got angry 😡 and yelled where did you come from? I said i come from Yemen 🙈 everyone was laughing.

    Sometimes when I go shopping centre I see some items written free i just take it home then security stop me 🤣

    So many times I screw up.

    I speak German fluently, and, by extension my Dutch is....decent-ish. I was a Classics major for a bit, so my Latin is still fairly decent. I can read New Testament (Koine) Greek, I'm also conversational in Spanish, and OK in Frnech. I can read and speak a bit of Italian, by virtue of the others. I'm currenly working on Russian and Portuguese - these are my most basic - lol.

    I had a neighbor who was from Dubai. When he came to the U.S. as a teenager he knew only a little English. He got a job at an amusement park and one day he walked into the break room. One of the other guys asked, “Hey, Jamal, what’s up?” He pondered the question for a moment, not understanding what it meant. He finally answered, “The clouds? The sky? God in His heaven?” The coworker thought he was being funny. Later his cousin explained what the phrase meant.

    I had a Saudi student as a roommate for six months. He would bring his friends over. Although their English was quite good they were not familiar with slang and idioms and so I avoided using them.

    I’ve had funny moments in Italian and Spanish. Once I was telling one of my Italian friends, “When I was a little boy . . . “ making the mistake of using the male rather than female word. I’m still not sure of exactly what I said that made the children giggle at the dinner table once.

    English and Hillbilly, I did learn sign language many years ago. A friend taught me the basics to get by but I moved away and never had a need to use it so I have forgotten about all of it.

    🤣 the last one happens quite alot to every one every language 🤣 its so popular , even people who don't speak English they use it alot, he/she

    When I used to play football they used to call me crab i don't understand what it means . 1 time i told my teacher im crab she was laughing 🤣 do you understand what it means,
    I said no
    She explained 🤣🤣 i was 🙈 woe to me.

    @Annichka I used to know a lot of Spanish but without much practice through the years it has declined unfortunately. I'm hoping to get back what I lost. Need to find my Spanish books that have been waiting on me to read for one lol

    I’m awful with languages so despite having years of lessons in multiple other languages at primary and secondary school I can only speak English.

    @Zundar a language is best learned as naturally as possible and needs upkeep. So I don't think it's you that's the problem. Though the method. If you don't use it, you lose it.

    I speak English without too much difficulty, some Spanish and a spattering of others. I'm not very fluent in French, but I do kiss that way! B)
