We'd been through a lot over the past 42 years. Broken hearts. Rehab. Big parties and small get togethers.
And when those old demons would raise their ugly heads we had each other to lean on, to keep me away from the bottle and to keep you away from the needle, when those nightmares of your buddies dying in far away places would haunt you.
No more middle of the night telephone calls. No more laughing or crying our way through whatever was going on.
Rest in peace, Jack. I know you're in a better place, with no more pain, but that doesn't make it easier for those left here.
