@takestwo Well, you pretty much need to get an agent, because publishers don't deal directly with authors. It's usually best to have two books written, because they want to see that you are good for more than one. Also, publishers love series, so if you have an idea for how your concept can stretch over multiple books, so much the better. Best place to start, once you have something done, is the Guide to Literary Agents, published every year by Writer's Digest.
