@Babichev “One can drive oneself crazy trying to achieve perfection but I think striving for excellence is a sane alternative.” - that is beautifully said, I agree completely. When I teach topics such as supplier selection, I stress there is no perfect supplier who can give you the best quality at the best price with the shortest lead times, etc. My goal is to encourage my students to think about what is most important to them and the companies they will be leading in the future. Is it really worth saving an additional 2 or 3% on material cost if it means doing business with suppliers who use forced child labor or who have horrible environmental records?
Last year I was on the bring of resigning from my faculty position and going back into industry full time (I still do some consulting for industry so I have plenty of contacts and could easily find a job paying 50% more than I am currently making. However I realized my greatest impact on this world is my ability to influence the next generation of business leaders so that is what I plan to continue doing for the rest of my career.
