As the world grows and evolves, so does art, animation, and the stories we can tell with it. CGI gets a bad rep & nitpicked alot these days but it's honestly beautiful how far it's come. Even the amount of detail you can display in a videogame nowadays is nothing short of amazing. Whether it's CGI or a cartoon, from a game or movie/tv show, old or new, what are some beautiful shots that you hold appreciation for?
The entirety of spiderman into the spidey verse 🕸️ 🙃
@Dmar YES
And what independent creators are producing on platforms like YouTube? HELLA impressive lol. And @Dmar , I'm sooooo excited for the sequel lol.
@Jesse_Bleu I agree! Independent creators deserve any and all love their way.
@Shake49 Did you see the new trailer for Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers? Talk about animation appreciation XD
@Jesse_Bleu I literally have no words for that movie. XD "Doing the Roger Rabbit, WITH ROGER RABBIT" lmao
Oh my god, I remeber learning that dance with my older sister when I was a kid. And YES! Roger my boy, how have we missed you T-T
I’ve been hearing about a new Disney film on the radio. It sounds really interesting, takes place in Colombia, South America. One of the interviews was with a Colombian botanist who helped them make sure they got things right about the plants.
Speaking of Disney - is anyone here familiar with the collaboration Walt Disney did with Salvador Dali? It’s trippy. They began production in 1945 but did not release it until 2003. I first saw it on a big screen.
Here’s another fun one: Quasi at the Quackadero by Sally Cruikshank. “You don’t need to take acid to have weird thoughts.” I saw it at a university and she did a question and answer session afterwards.
Gods I love cartoons. One of my favorite tropes in cartoons is the ever loving fight cloud.
This is my personal favorite fight cloud moment. Especially the part where he says, "I ain't calling ya fer dinner!"
While I appreciate CGI animation (especially when it is extremely realistic looking) I've always had a soft spot for hand drawn animation. Particularly when there is an immense amount of detail.
I think Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind was the first film that really blew me away with the detail of the hand drawn animation. Check out the 1:40 mark of the above video for a great example.
Edit: Forgive the bad dub and music from this trailer. I'd recommend checking out the movie in it's original form, if you can.
@Dragonheart1988 - oh, that is funny!
The fight cloud made me think of another cartoon trope: stars swirling about one’s head when getting knocked in the head. I had an actual experience of this one time when I got hit real hard in the head and for a very brief moment I blacked out and saw flashes of light. Just like in the cartoons!
@CC99 - that is beautiful. I’ve only seen two of Miyazaki’s films that I can recall, I should seek out others. I think I will never forgive him, though, for screwing up Ursula LeGuin’s EarthSea series. She would not give anyone the rights to it for forever, finally gave Miyazaki the rights, which should have been the perfect match for the material. He turned it over to his son and it just did not cut the mustard. What a disappointment.
I’ll have to seek that one out. Thank you.
@Babichev
@Dragonheart1988 - Hahaha! Yep, just like that!
I also like the running feet. Like this.
Here’s an interesting little piece of animation I was just recommended by a friend of mine who is going to ski in a race this weekend. Nice blend of live action + animation.
And two favorite feature length animated films.
Triplets of Belleville is a quirky little film about a bicycle racer who is kidnapped by organized crime guys and forced to participate in indoor bike races where they are bet on. He is rescued by his quirky little grandmother. One of my favorite scenes, of course, is when she “massages” him after training.
Fantastic Planet is a beautiful piece of animation. I don’t care for the trailer but post it anyway because it does give samples from various scenes. It takes place on a fantastical planet where humans are tiny compared to the dominant beings and are seen as either vermin to be exterminated or to be kept as pets. It appears that the entire film may be available on YouTube.
These are wonderful! ^.^
