A lot of what we see around us and use every day came into existence because someone somewhere wished for something. When I was 15, some other kid who was smarter than me had the same wish as me, "I wish I could talk to my friends without having to stretch this dang cord all the way down the hall and into my room". They grew up, invented things, and now here we are.

I grew up in Hawaii. "Aloha," a is just a greeting to most, but it's a spirit of living. When someone says I'm full of "Aloha," there's a connection there that most won't understand. I listened to a podcast with Lee Cronin, who is a professor in Glasgow at the University of Glasgow, said (context: He was talking about the origin of life):

"Life was developed so the universe could create memories."

Do what you will with that, but it was pretty profound with me.
