Isolation! As an introverted, pessimistic, misanthropic, materialistic person, a decent day for me is one where I don't have to see/hear/be around random people against my will.

I endure existence because, as a biological entity, various things compel me to survive. I also derive enjoyment from numerous things. I'm also very fortunate in that I have a partner who shares many of my same beliefs. Yay!

  • [Deleted User]Rain567 (deleted user)

I envy you @HogboblinZwei I cherish my solitude because there’s just too much to worry about. But it’s hard when I have children who have to exist in this world . Children I have to protect . It’s exhausting and ridiculous.

  • If I understand your post correctly, this is what you're asking:

How do you deal with the world and its people? Both the good that’s left in them and the evil that seems to be growing?

I feel powerless. The ideal world in my opinion is way more loving than this one, more accepting and safe. But the reality is the opposite. There is good, yes, but there’s also evil: too much of it. There are good people, but there are also too many with evil intent.

How do you deal with reality? How do you exist?

It’s hard for me to be unkind to people. It’s hard for me to treat others negatively when I walk with my personal darkness every day. I have been an unkind flawed individual in various times of my life; I’m not an untainted soul. I am a walking contradiction. My ideal world is suffused with kindness, warmth and love—but reality always finds its way to keep me grounded, paranoid, scared, hardened, cold, distant and insecure.

How do you move confidently in the light when darkness follows close behind?

This is my personal mental and spiritual conflict. I wanted to see what kind of feedback I’d get and what varied perspectives I’d get to read through if I shared. Feel free to ignore if this is too weird for you.

I've never cared much for light. Literally, it hurts my eyes—figuratively, it tends to make me feel anywhere from a little bit sick to full-on disgusted. People are different. There's no world that would be ideal for everyone. A safe place for one person (my mother, say) is often a dangerous place for someone else (me, for instance).

The world may seem to be tending towards evil while the only good is whatever's left from earlier years... but this is only a seeming, and depends entirely on your personal, human ideas about "good" and "evil."

So far as roaches are concerned, the world may be on exactly the right track.

That's how I deal with the world and the people in it: by going one step further away from idealism and towards reality. It doesn't matter to the world what we humans do. Even if the Earth shattered, the universe wouldn't notice. Heck, the planet itself wouldn't have the slightest idea that anything had happened. Only sentient beings care about anything—and nothing cares about them except, well... them.

    We only matter to us.

So, because I care about myself, I deal with reality in whatever way I think is most likely to make my existence longer and more enjoyable.

We all live in our own realities and have to accept that our light and dark are harmonized. You can not have light without darkness. I would like to recommend looking into eastern philosophies. They may be able to help guide you into acceptance and understanding. ☯️

    @Rain567

Having kids seems really, really hard. Like, extraordinarily difficult. It's not something I could ever do.

Unless I lived in a sane, decent country that provided free (or inexpensive) childcare. But even then, I don't think I've got the right stuff for it.

I've seen a few of your other posts here in the forum. Hopefully you can manage to get some time to relax and recuperate soon. At least for a while.

There’s so much evil I have to protect them from . I M not doing enough and what I feel like I’ll have to do to combat the evil worries me . I’m worried about what kind of mother I’ll have to be to do the job and do it right . If not for them I probably wouldn’t be here but I regret bringing them into a world with so much darkness with people shrouded in darkness and Ill intent . Who I am and what I’m doing isn’t enough . I have failed so many times in various ways .I need to be more than I am , more than I feel I’m capable of but I can’t even envision a reality where I’m successful . Though I’m not totally alone . Im still alone . Im solely responsible for their protection , sustenance , interactions with reality , their lives . Im far from worthy of the blessing that I’ve been handed . But I have to be . There’s just so much ugly I have to protect them from . Im scared of the people in this world . Im afraid of the reality their faces with . I feel like a mother hen trying to protect her young from humans and animal alike . People are so dangerously flawd and I can’t do anything about that . Im strong but it would be nice if I did have to be so strong . If I could lean on someone who can help calm my fears and cradle my anxiety .

  • Love is sometimes about standing (or cuddling) in the tension.

For me, and my own struggles with the tension, revolves around forgiving myself. It's kind of a flippant way of dealing with things. I've nearly died a few times. I came to a kind of brutal decision that I'm not going to waste any more time thinking about where I fall short. I just had to kick myself in the ass and get on with life. I am much quicker to catch myself with the self-recriminations and forgive myself. This world encourages us to beat-ourselves-up.

If there is a creator, I am sure that I wasn't put here for that. If there is no creator, then I am only beholden to myself. I can choose to be forgiving and non-judgemental with myself. What other people think doesn't matter. They own their own feelings.

With struggles/evils, outside myself, I have been brutal in eliminating them from my life. In fact, often the only way to get through to someone is to ignore their behaviour and cut them off. Disallow them access to create chaos in my life. I'm sure it's not the healthiest behaviour, but it works.

I have a lot more joy in my life, now that I am being judicious about who gets access to "me", and how much access they get. There are plenty of authentic people I've brought into my life and I cherish my time with them.

The social justice things that are happening locally (Minneapolis and beyond) just shred me. I try and do my part to make things better. That's all I can control. With this war stuff too, it brings me pain. I don't have an antidote for that.

I'm not sure where I'm going with all this except to be authentic and let you know you aren't alone in this world. There are people who feel like you do, struggle with their own tensions like you do, care about you even though they don't know anything about you. I hope that so many good people come into your life, that it lifts and carries you like a life raft.

A side note... change often upsets people. It means they have to adapt to a new reality. They will resist or try to sabotage another person (or a people group), rather than deal with seeing you succeed. It's easier. It's a societal norm. Don't let the bastards get you down. Keep treating yourself gently. Keep looking for "your" people. They are out there.

    Peace, Daniel

  • Consider adopting the serenity prayer as a daily guide:
    God grant me the serenity
    to accept the things I cannot change;
    courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

How I deal with the world and its people:

I make sure that my world, my home, is something that I am in control of, and something that I can make a happy place for myself, my dog, and the people I care about. I do not want negative energy in my life, so I don't spend time with toxic people, or allow them anywhere near me. I surround myself with things that make me happy, and take time to engage with my hobbies, listen to music I enjoy and read books that I like. I curate collections of items that intrigue and fascinate me, things I enjoy looking at, and clothes I feel comfortable in. I accept my own limitations, while also gently pushing my boundaries to experiment with new things. I make time to write, to create art, to craft, to watch movies, to nap. I listen to my body and give it what it needs. I make sure that my world is safe and happy because it's all I can control. The planet will keep turning, people will continue to be hateful and toxic, but ignorance is bliss. You're already struggling with a lot- don't take the weight of the world onto your shoulders. The planet will not implode if people that are already struggling to maintain equilibrium pick their battles and choose themselves over whatever else is going on in the world. You can't fix everything, but you can make your own world safe and comfortable. Start there, and you'll find that everything else falls into place.

@Rain567 Keep your head up, life can be hard, there's no way around it, and there are a lot of people in life with hate in their souls which makes things harder. The best way to deal with it is to learn to expertly navigate it and love it for what it is. I think most parents probably have a lot of doubt sometimes but I think from the perspective of a kid you are everything and can do no wrong. So you'll be fine, we all fail and have doubts, I've failed so many times I could teach a class on it, but failure is just an opportunity to learn and it's not how you fall, it's how you get back up, ect., ect. I've found that most of the time I feel down on myself that things are usually a lot better then I makes them out to be.

@Rain567 Prepare the child for the road, not the road for the child.

Wisdom – deep learning that shapes our character – comes at a cost, and that cost often involves discomfort, suffering, and loss. Nobody wants to see their child hurting, but hurting is a necessary part of growing up. The true gift of a skinned knee or a loss of electronics for a week is a lesson learned: nothing comes for free.

Let your children fall down and fail and make mistakes. Provide the opportunity for them to make amends and learn from their experiences. Allow them the gift of pain when they need to suffer a bit. In the end they will be ready for the road ahead and not be waiting for the world to take care of them.

By showing them safety and care they will grow confident in their ability to be supported, and therefore to handle adversity and hardship with resiliency that those in unstable households/situations may lack.

It's a fine line with lots of nuance, but the fact you care this much already shows you're doing a great job and have nothing to worry about.

If these thoughts are really pervasive and causing you a lot of distress, consider talking to a therapist about it. Voicing these things with a professional may provide a lot of insight into yourself and what external factors may be causing you to fixate on perceived dangers.
You may find relief from these anxieties simply by talking them out with someone and articulating what it's like.

I wish you all the best you protective mama.

What I have found that helps me the most is just to unplug and go off grid. Reconnect with myself and take a deep inventory of exactly what I’m feeling… really feels it and not look for a distraction. I ask what is making me feel that way. Is it in my control? And more importantly can I fix it? 99% it’s just a case of acceptance 😊

  • You don't deal with the world. It's not your responsibility. Draw a circle and draw a circle around that circle. Keep drawing circles around those circles. The first circle is your community -- your neighbors, your kids, your parents, your family. Start with your energy in that circle and understand that it is OKAY to cut off toxic neighbors or family members. Migrate to the next circle if you have the time and energy and branch out from there. Start with your inner circle tho! Feel free to message me about it! I have been through a whole lot of life and have gotten plenty of reality checks of where to put my time and energy.

  • Most people are not evil. I have often been told that I’m always walking around smiling, looking like I’m having a good time. That’s because I am. I take delight in small things. I also pay attention. I’m not stupid. If I’m walking alone at night I’m paying attention to my surroundings. If someone seems as if they are not trustworthy, I avoid putting myself into a vulnerable position.

I knew a guy who was extremely negative. He perceived the world as unfriendly, that everyone around him was stupid or out to get him. He walked around with a chip on his shoulder and got terribly offended at the least perceived insult. He and I inhabited the same physical world but we had dramatically different experiences.

Back in the late 60s there was a poster: Stop trying to change the world. You won’t. Start letting the world change you. It might.

We have a choice about where we put our attention.

I cope with the reality of the world by escaping with micro dosing and attending raves.
At raves and EDM music festivals you're surrounded by people who are genuine, caring, want to share positive energy and spread kindness. There's no focus on the color of your skin, religion, economic status etc. Everyone is welcome. Fat, short, tall, weird, nerdy, boring, professional. The love shown and the positivity just flows throw the crowd. No one is a stranger
You can't help but feel it and bring it back to your everyday life after the show is over. Its my church and my therapy. ❤️

  • @quixotic_life you had a realityectomy?

  • @Rezz I made it to my very first rave this year and could not agree with you more. I’ve never seen such an overflow of love and acceptance 💗
    Truly a life changing experience!

  • When's the next rave? (hand raised high and waving gently)

  • @Nature_Lover_

Oh that's awesome I'm so glad you felt such a positive first time experience. Its truly such a beautiful and unique setting I try to take all my friends to. Most think it's just a drug induced party but it's so much more than that lol

How do you deal with the world and it’s people. Both the good that’s left in it and the evil that follows .

No one is all good or all bad. (Cue that old Michael Jackson/Paul McCartney song.) I've been guilty of being a total bitch but also secretly paying for someone's meal in a restaurant. I've received bad and good karma (in the world, not here lol). I believe you get back what you put out there as in "Be the change you want to see in the world".

    I feel powerless.

I've felt like this but learned I'm the only one who can give me my power, so I took it.

The ideal world in my opinion is way more loving , accepting and safe. But the reality is the latter . There’s good but there’s too much evil . There are good people but there are too many with evil intent . How do you deal with reality ? How do you exist ? It’s hard for me to be unkind to people. It’s hard for me to walk with my personal darkness and treat others with the energy that darkness Carrie’s .

I'd respond with everything I said before.

I have been an unkind flawd individual in various times of my life . I’m not an untainted soul . I am a walking contradiction .

This describes every human being. No one is unflawed or kind 100% of the time.

My ideal world is shrouded in kindness , warmth and love . But reality always finds it’s way to keep me grounded , paranoid, scared, hardened , cold , distant and insecure. How do you flow in the light when darkness follows close behind ? My personal mental and spiritual conflict . Wanted to see what kind of feedback I’d get and what varied perspectives I’d get to read through . Feel free to ignore if this is too weird .

I essentially create my own world. Yes, I'm aware of what's going on everywhere, but I kind of have to live in my own bubble to an extent to be happy. (Someone else's description of concentric circles was spot on.) I can't take on all of the world's problems or I would live in constant fear, anxiety, panic, sadness... There just will always be both good and bad in the world. An ideal world sounds nice but is an impossible utopia.

Personally, I have unsubscribed from all news sources on Facebook, blocked or at least changed my friend settings so constantly negative and complaining people don't show up on my newsfeed.

When I was extremely depressed and hopeless (I'm a special needs mom like you and it is HARD), I listened to positivity podcasts and talks on YouTube. Whenever I could, I immersed myself in whatever positive messages I could find. I'm not religious and new agey Law of Attraction woo-woo and self-improvement stuff works for me. Lol

Day and night I would have my earbuds in as much as possible listening to uplifting things just to stay out of my own head and intrusive thoughts. And when I need to, I also write. I keep a blog and pretty much write about everything in life and also write poetry and fiction. I go through phases and definitely don't write as much when I'm well.

I love Wayne Dyer's talks on YouTube and his movie The Shift for the new age/LOA Tau de Ching universe karma Buddism type stuff and Tom Bilyeu's Impact Theory is good for self Improvement stuff.

If I were religious and couldn't get to church, there are lots of sermons on YouTube as well. I could even search and find online therapist sites like Betterhelp but for me, that's prohibitively expensive, which is why I've dealt with life my own way.

  • However, no-one is perfect and if you expect that, you will either be disappointed or drive everyone away.

Are you giving guarantees they will go away? Because I have a few people that approach might be useful on.

  • @Rain567
I can’t deal with the world as a whole, just the small part of it that is within my sphere of influence. I squandered that influence for many years working in industry but it was never truly satisfying at a personal level.

A few years ago I changed careers and I now use my education and decades of industry experience to influence the next generation of business leaders - to encourage them to take the environment and the lives & livelihoods of their future employees into account when making decisions rather than just focusing on how a decision will impact quarterly earnings.

There are plenty of good people in the world, we just need to exercise our influence to encourage them to do the right thing even when they are in situations where the right thing is difficult. That is all I know to do to deal with reality. It helps me sleep better at night knowing I am doing what I can to make the world better even though the seeds I plant today may take years to bear fruit.

  • @Rain567
You mentioned quite a bit to address. I have a few suggestions you may consider. First, don’t try to fix everything nor everyone. One thing we all have to continually realize is that you cannot control everything. Let some things go (lower your worry/priority).
Secondly, find something that makes you happy- it can be small! Find a way to enjoy this every other day. Small things like this give you something to look forward to. It brings you a little more balance to your life.
Thirdly, don’t worry so much about what other people think.
When you worry heavily about something that’s bothering you, ask yourself: Is this going to matter 3 years from now?
Daily thoughts: Be yourself. Start small. Enjoy one day at a time.
    Hope this helps.

  • @JoyfulHeart ~ Yes, I performed a "realityectomy" on my comment. I realized, after posting my drama, that this wasn't the right space for it...

    @Rain567

    Wow.
    Just wow.

    1. Turn off the news. Just turn it off completely. Start there, ok? There's streaming services and every service has their own section of black success stories, and you need a break from thE artificial programming. And you need to see these types of breaks in programming more often. Hell, just CHANGE IT. You may even find yourself learning things that you never knew! The media has been using negative programming to hijack the amygdala since the telecom act of 1996 and further (I'm in comms).

    2. Did you turn off the news? Good.

Now go in the mirror and say "I love you" to yourself.
Saying I love you to yourself is a form of therapy and I don't care what anyone of any color/race/religion/age/experience says.

    3. Start saying I love you to yourself. Did you do it? More! And often! And forgive yourself for mistakes. Like others have said previously in this thread, the fact that you've made it so far and are still going is irrefutable proof of your capacity to give. You are NOT asking too much or weird for wanting reassurance.

Back to the the world and the media programming that I requested to change. The truth is the matter is that the world has been trending more and more positive for the last couple of decades and there is a vast amount of literature and statistics to support this, and you won't believe me (you won't, which is all the more reason why it's important for you to find it on your own) but I'll give you four, really quick. Less people are dying due to illness/disease. Lifespans are longer. More work is being done GLOBALLY to eradicate intolerance/social inequities. Smartphones (I work in comms).

    4. So do the work. I'm not keeping hopes on convincing anyone THROUGH SOCIAL MEDIA that the world is a good place. You are going to have to find it, on your terms, in your time. But let's go back to loving and forgiving YOURSELF and doing the work, not just saying it or looking for it. Not yet. Not until you make yourself at peace. I can't tell you what steps to make or in what direction. But here's some options to explore. Boundary setting! I love this one because I'm so terrible at it 😭 🙃 I love this one also because it gives you permission to UTILIZE YOUR SECRET WEAPON! Fight fire with you own fire! Fire demons with your inner demon 😈

    5. Becoming at peace with your devils. This is going to be part of boundary setting as well, cuz I feel they go hand in hand. Follow @thehoodhealer on Instagram. People say "better the devil you know than the devil you don't". My therapist disagrees and now so do I. I'm really agreeable, so I have a problem speaking up that I'm working on. Used to be scared to speak up. Now? I'm more scared of what will happen if I don't. Keep being nurturing, keep being kind, keep being unapologetically YOU... just know there's a part of you. Another part. No, not that one. Where if you're a peace with it, it'll will grant you super powers. You can fight the evil with your own demons but it only works if it's from the right space. In the time between you being presented with a decision, and making the decision, there's a space. That space is where the healing is done. Or blah blah blah God is watching. All the best. Antisocialsocialclub

@WinterSoldierzz Those who hold power have always wanted you to turn off the news. Turning off the news was once referred to in Journalism as the “Wizard of Oz” syndrome—don’t pay attention to the man behind the curtain.

But I do see your point as it pertains to settling the mind temporarily. News can be overwhelming and disturbing at times.
