What does home mean to you?

What does it feel like?

For me, while I live in a house, I feel homeless.

I don't think I've ever had anything that feels like home.

What I imagine it feels like is like Christmas in a movie, with a soft fireplace, warm yellow glow, and people who love each other.

I think I'm homesick, but for a home I've never had

    Home to me is my own space that I can feel safe and comfortable in. I've lived many places but only a few have given me that 'it' feeling.

    I now have what I hope to be my forever home and although it is not big or even remotely traditional it is the best fit for me.

    And my critters are a must. Without them, it would just be a place I stay.

    Except when you are the Queen. She has demonstrated quite a tenacious love of her haunts. The grotesquely rich never seem to be homesick—they just go wherever they please.

    @MCcuddles2 I believe our home is where we are, not just physically but mentally as well. Our place of origin is not relevant. only where we choose to go, either by ourselves or together, with the ones we love.

    Home for me is when I'm in the presence of a person I love, who fully loves and accepts me in return.

    It’s so interested if though ~ that home can have so many meanings and additionally so many insights into the person sharing what it means to them.

    I have entered places / situations / relationships before and immediately felt that were home for me.

    @MCcuddles2 I truly hope you find the “home,” that you are seeking … be that the peace and comfort you deserve or perhaps a sense of belonging or togetherness, or whatever that may entail for you.

    This hit pretty hard. I've felt really quite homeless for the majority of my life as well. It really became an overwhelming feeling in the last few years. And it's quite difficult to find the solution especially when societal and financial restrictions are there.

    @MCcuddles2 thank you for giving me words for a feeling I've been struggling with. I hope you find your home soon 💜

    They do say that home is where the heart is. The most important trait of this I think for most would be the people. A sense of belonging. Someone with a pet dog might feel at home anywhere their pet is.

    Physically or metaphysically, home is my castle. It's where I feel safe.
    Being around certain people makes me feel as safe as a physical home.

    Sometimes I'm baffled by how so many people are looking for the same thing yet it is so hard for them to find.

    I mean, I'm a human too so I'm in this mess but seeing it from a third person perspective it seems bizarre.

    I really like this post! Home for me is absolutely anywhere in the world where the people I love are right there , yes I’ve always had my idea of my dream place I’d love to live in - modern 2 bedroom condo 2 parking ect ect - but I value the setting way more if that makes sense …. If the absolute best home in the world meant being away from all my loved ones / my entire circle / Id give it up in a heartbeat or wouldn’t take it to begin with.

    Home when I lived with my parent meant my bedroom. That was my safe haven, filled with things I loved.

    Home when I traveled was my SUV; it held everything I needed and was my literal safe place and security blanket.

    Home now is wherever my boyfriend is. I moved to a place I said I'd never live, to be "home" with him, and now we live in a beautiful place that is home for now. I would follow him anywhere, and I have.

    Home in the future will hopefully be near mountains and trees. I grew up under their shadow, and after traveling for a few years, nothing feels more comforting to me.

    This is an interesting question. I like to bounce from city to city. I could be in Dallas one year, back in Austin the next, living on the outskirts of Austin, planning to move to Denver. I just don't stay in one place very long. For me, home was visiting my Mom and taking a nap on her couch. I always slept so well. I'm tall and I know she bought couches I could fit on for those naps even though she never admitted it.

    @Saysoh That would be my ideal life at this point, bouncing from place to place each year. After spending my first 30 years in Colorado, I love experiencing what new places have to offer!

    I built my life for it. No kids, never married, not committing to anything I couldn't walk away from at the drop of a hat. Of course I'm in my forties now and am understanding roots need to be planted, but I still have the freedom, but I'm not sure I want them to be here which is why I'm thinking of going back to Denver next year.

    Yeah. She lived a hard life and was often sick. When my stepfather had a stroke, I'd travel to cut her grass every other weekend, take care of her house shit. She's passed on, but yeah; I enjoyed taking care of her, because she took care of the entire family.

    @Saysoh I totally get you! My boyfriend and I think now is a perfect time to try living out of the country for similar reasons...no kids, no mortgage, no health issues... It's an exciting time in life. :3

    In its most basic form, it means having a roof over my head and all that it comes with. Beyond that, I'd say hanging out with friends and time spent with someone I share great mutual love with. Excuse me now while I go cuddle with my imaginary cat.

    Home is where you can feel like being yourself without the burden of being judged, but feeling respected and loved. Sometimes, even though there’s no roof, time on the trail in nature with my dog feels like home.

    Many years ago, we were tent camping in Glacier National Park. On our first day there, we did some hiking. When we got back to the camp ground, I asked our two rear old "Michelle, do you know where we are?" Her answer was "Home."

    These days, our camping is with a 5th wheel RV. Our cats like to sit out in the camp site with us. When I tell them to "Go Home!" they go up the steps to the door of the RV.

    Home is wherever you lay your head down at night.
