If you read a lot of men's profiles, have you noticed that quite a few like the TV show The Office and the movie Shawshank Redemption? So do I; I just think it's interesting.

Pollen and asthma almost have me under house arrest, so I decided to ask this trivial question I have been wondering about.
LOL.

    @achetocuddle I didn't pick either lol. I like The Office TV show though it seemed repetitive to me at times. Shawshank Redemption was filmed right up the road here in Ohio btw. I like / don't like that movie. Fear of prison probably!

    I have spotted The Shawshank Redemption a time or two, which made me smile. Excellent movie. I couldn't pick favorites so I just listed my most-watched genres.

    I’ve noticed that too lol weirdly enough though, I too love the Office and Shawshank Redemption is one of my all time fave movies 🍿

    @SunsetSnuggles Listing genres might be better. Being too specific on any part of our profiles might inadvertently pigeonhole us.

    @OhioMike The Office has been an acquired taste for me. It doesn't seem repetitive to me; that's an interesting viewpoint. Sometimes they remind me of myself - somewhat socially awkward but earnest, sincere and generally good intentions. Didn't remember Shawshank was filmed in Ohio. And I can't believe that is anyone's fave, but that is OK.

    @Sheena123 I like knowing someone else has noticed this. I am fortunate to have lots of free time and I am a detail person that loves to read, so I could not help but notice. Shawshank is well-made and easy to re-watch, but I didn't realize til joining here that it ranked so high with so many.

    Given a choice, I would cuddle all the sweet people too far away instead of picking up on small patterns in profiles. LOL.

    @achetocuddle That's a neat skill! I am detail-oriented, as well, but I don't feel like I notice patterns naturally, in terms of behavior or repetitive things happening on the same day or time, etc. Seems that patterns have to be pointed out to me and then I can track them, once I'm looking. le shrug

    @SunsetSnuggles OH! I've seen Corgi pics before but did not recognize this one. With his head and ears at those angles, he is reminiscent of a fox. And he is grinning like a possum. He must be freshly cuddled. ha ha

    Plenty of women put the Shawshank Redemption. Obviously it's a good film but I'm not sure why it's quite so popular.

    Not many put The Office. I have definitely seen it on women's profiles though.

    I read a critique of the Shawshank Redemption whose thesis was that it’s basically a tearjerker for men. Maybe it comes to mind for a lot of us when we try to picture ourselves being emotionally vulnerable? But you know… We’re not just tough guys with tender hearts. We also appreciate the silly stuff. Hence: “The Office”.

    I don’t know if “Boys Don’t Cry” is really my favorite film. But I think it says something about me that is less easily misconstrued than, say, “Edward Scissorhands.”

    Shawshank is literally escapist fantasy.

    About being unjustly imprisoned by an uncaring, manipulative, and exploitative system.

    About perseverance against bullying and abuse.

    About trying to find moments of joy in a frustrated, drab existence.

    About striving to build something despite the obstacles, both external and internal.

    About finding a friend even in terrible circumstances.

    And ultimately about the escape itself, where your tormentors finally receive justice and you are able to find contentment, solace, and forgetful peace in a place your friend can join you.

    It is, basically, about how it feels to be a regular human being in any industrial country in the modern world.

    What’s not to connect with?

    (I mean, of course, besides the actual escaping part. None of us escape alive… But that is why it’s a fantasy.)

    @MonkeyNeedsAHug This is so interesting. I agree that our profiles should say general things we like rather than something so specific it could be misconstrued. Goodness knows a lot of "misconstruing" goes on in the forum sometimes :)

    @GoodRightHook This is interesting and well-worded. You make your points well. Wish you would start a thread. You have so much to say.

    Lot of guys pushing boundaries in that film. It’s a female cuddler’s escapist fantasy when the bulls get their comeuppance. Pun kinda intended.
