What's everyone planning to do for Mother's Day? I'll be working for the next 12 days, so I wanted to get my greeting out early!
Mourning with the family, but thanks for the reminder.
@Saysoh thanks for all the bad vibes across threads.
@MrKinder
Perspectives and reality are interesting places. Sometimes answers don't align with status quo and sometimes, create friction. I answered a question honestly within the reality of my family. I selected, "other," which is an option.
I have a social meetup group that I had started, so I'm gonna spend the morning with them for brunch and then go to Costco and buy some flowers to visit my mom at the cemetery and then take my son out to go see Dr. Strange.,,and maybe out to dinner for Mommy's Day for myself after the movie.
For the weekend, home projects, and getting the pool opened and ready for swimming and having friends over. Then a day trip to a nearby fun community of Schulenburg TX to see some really cool painted churches. https://goldencountrycowgirl.com/painted-churches-schulenburg-texas
@Saysoh sorry about your mother , I've lost a father and my son has lost his mother, I've been a single parent now for 13 yrs . But my guy, come on, cant expect others to avoid a topic and make concessions just because it might bother you . It's a light hearted benign thread and you dont have to participate in it and try to shame the thread starter for it . There is nothing wrong with others talking about things that are meaningful to them.
@pmvines 💯
@Saysoh you are causing friction with your answers because you are being passive aggrssive and entitled and then trying to frame it as deep thinking.
@pmvines Two attacks when answering a question honestly.
Define deep thinking vs perspective? And entitled? How so? Having a forum to answer questions honestly is entitlement? Bro, I asnwered a question honestly that had an option for, "other." How is that entitlement?
The original question is:
"How are you spending your Mother's day."
I answered:
(paraphrase) My family is mourning the death of my Mother. That's entitlement passing it off as, "deep thinking?"
@Saysoh: Not everybody has a happy answer to what they'll be doing on Mother's Day, but not everyone with an unhappy answer "thanks" the OP of a Mother's Day thread for reminding them of something unpleasant.
@pmvines
"Sorry about you, mother."
No, you're not. You're justifying an offensive. Thoughts and prayers, yeah?
Sure, "Thanks for reminding me," could have been done without. I'll give you that, but this:
"It's a light hearted benign thread"
Not for everyone, my guy. I answered honestly and admitted fault. The truth, "Mother's day," has lost value within my sisters and myself. They don't even want to celebrate it now even with their own kids. It's lost value. That's the reality and my bad for expressing it.
...
Every single day is Mother’s Day for me 🌌 ♥️ 364 days out of the year I make sure it is Mother’s Day … when Mother’s Day finally shows up, I freeze …
Depressing day for me.
My condolences 💐 to those who’s mother’s and or important women in thier life have passed away. I plan to spend time with mother and family, during the weekend!
Geez this sweet thread went south, fast.
I'll be doing nothing special. I'm not a mother and don't have the best relationship with mine, so there will be a phone call.
@cuddles_ndream You're cute. 😄

My apologies for the way I made my point to you @Saysoh . Things have seemed a bit caustic on the forums lately and I dont feel I need to contribute to that . I should have been able to defend the OP while making my point without making a personal attack.
Here's the deal . We all respond and identify in different ways based on our personal experiences and beliefs . The thread with the video about men being able to talk to people about their problems is an example. People who identify with and have good thoughts about mothers day will like this thread . People who dont wont , and thats perfectly fine . Please post your thoughts, its what the forums are for.
My issue I have is that you are trying to hold the OP responsible for you feeling a certain way about it . That's not fair to her . She didnt do anything personally to upset you . You have not been wronged. Life doesn't come with a trigger warning and you can't expect people to accommodate you just because you might feel a certain way about something. It's one thing to say you don't share the same interest as someone in something or don't l like or agree with it, but trying to make someone feel bad for having even brought it up isn't the right thing to do.
@Saysoh I like your posts. I don’t always agree but it is interesting to read. Honest outspoken people will always find friction. No one has to agree with everyone all the time, otherwise what is the point of communication if you can’t pose new ideas.
But the bit where you said “but thanks for the reminder” comes across as a passive aggressive jab to the OP. Not sure if you meant it like that, but that’s how it comes across and may come across to others possibly
Sorry to all those whose mothers have passed. Or have a horrible relationship with their mother
Thanks for the reminder....
I need to go buy a gift!!!
Deleted so as not to hijack the thread.
As a Mother, I’ll be engaging in fun activities with my children. I feel as if Mother's Day should be everyday though.
I'll be spending time with mine. She was asking me for suggestions, so I need to think of something good and fun for the family. Also still have to figure out a gift. I do know for one I'll be writing a nice heartfelt card to my grandmother since she recently was in the hospital and saying certain things that worried us. I'll have to let her know how much we love her and would be devastated if we were to lose her any time soon.
Not sure yet, probably dinner with the fam.
My birthday is next week and my mother always wants to cook each one of us a birthday lunch when maybe all 3 daughters can be there. So I will go to her house but she will cook! ha ha I'm a bad giri. Lol. Not really. I will probably give her the usual - Baskin Robbins ice cream and a New Guinea impatiens. I have to go towards Nashville to get the impatiens and she likes not having to make the trip. And some other Sunday I will cook lunch for all of us. And when I'm around people who have lost a mom or child I will avoid talking about Mother's Day and hopefully not accidentally make their day worse.
I always ask for fried pork chops Love eating them, hate frying them.
I have the mother of my kids taken care of. Never sure what to do for my own mother.
I’ll be on my second day of driving back home from Florida. 12 hours on the 7th. 12 hours on the 8th. My MIL asked what we wanted for dinner when we get to Canada lol so I guess we’re having dinner after a long tiresome drive. She’s too nice for our own good lol
@Sheena123 Lol. Oh dear.
@sunnysideup
"“but thanks for the reminder”
"comes across as a passive aggressive jab to the OP"
I agree. I left it up and admitted to my fault and realize the consequences. I'm not above making mistakes. Since my Mom's death is recent relatively, I'm starting to realize I get in a weird place this time of year and starting to understand grief is a journey you have to manage.
I didn't expect my thread to turn into this. I'm sorry that it did, as I was not trying to cause any issues. 😕 I do appreciate the comments from the people who came to my defense, as they knew my intent was not to make anyone feel badly. People can still feel free to vote and comment - if they'd like.
My plans:
I'll be working on Mother's Day, but I'll see my mom briefly. Like some others on the site, my relationship with my mother isn't great, but I don't blame myself for that. There's quite a bit of a background story to that. I can share it with anyone who would like to message me, as I'm not exactly comfortable putting it on the forum at this point, and I don't want to derail this thread...
Thanks, guys - for sharing your plans. 🫂😊
