Anyone here following the Twitter buyout?

edited May 2022 in General

I doubt anyone here cares about that, but if there’s anyone, do you think Elon Musk is gonna go through with the purchase, or do you think he’s trying to find a way out of the deal … Also, why do you think he is or why do you think he isn’t … curious on your perspective.

  • No. I never used Twitter. I don't like companies that uses a bird as their mascot.

  • I don't use Twitter, but I have been following it due to main stream and independent media promoting it so much. Every show and even local news remind you of what people are saying on Twitter as if it matters. It appears as though Elon likes the idea of having an open platform for all perspectives (yet won't unban Adam Waldmin but that is a rant for another day) which I can respect. However, the issue now seems like many people actually do not use Twitter and its all an illusion due to the number of bots. So this fantasy of his just popped and might be better to use that money to find aliens or something. 😆 Whatever happens doesn't matter because I am team JD. Those who understand are my friends now.

  • @Vianca I’m impressed! lol you really know it! 😅

  • @Vianca bit remember , the buyout hasn’t completed yet … I bet Elon would immediately unban him & others …. It seems as though Elon is trying to back out of the deal, & that Twitter now wants to force the buyout to go through (I don’t blame Twitter, Elon aggressively pursued the buyout … but I don’t blame Elon wanting to abandon the deal now for several reasons lol.

As for being team JD, he came out in support of Musk.

I don't like JD very much, (just personal gut feelings) but I've followed musk since Falcon 1. The man is a paragon if they exist at all. Doesn't mean he's always right, but he knows what he believes is right, does that, and expects nothing less from his folk.

  • Team Snoop Dog.

Ya I follow it a little. My feeling is that everyone says what Musk is doing now is to tryo to drive down the price, but I think what he's really doing is trying to save face and find an exit without it looking like I was a stupid idea in the first place because don't think Twitter comes down to the price he wants. I don't think the deal goes down just for the fact the stock market is bad and getting worse and he's lost tes billions of dollars in the past month on his Tesla holdings. But I think he has good intentions, everything he's done made him very rich but was based on the idea to try to better society - first to bring EV's into the mainsteam, Paypal brought fintech into existence, SpaceX will prove more and valuable for space exploration, StarLink is going to be a very valuable service that will eventually bring internet to people in the world who can't get internet, the Boring company is a valuable service for overcrowded places. I think in Twitter he just saw an opportunity to help with the fairly new problem of the spread of disinformation and group think in the age of social media.

@MissAdventurous I genuinely hope Snoop Dogg buys it. I never liked that little weiner Elon Musk

  • I do blame Twitter lol how long have people been complaining about censorship and being manipulated by algorithms? They knew it was coming by not changing. I'm perfectly fine with how he went about it because the aftermath exposed how intertwined politicians are with companies as well as exposes how they don't follow the constitution they enforce on everyone else. I may have went a little left with this but no one is talking about it 😅 It reminds me of how GameStop exposed them from rigging the stock market. All this drama will only lead to further upset and potentially another civil war. Its disstressing how all these politians are creating war now when we're all approaching a decade of natural disasters we're not equipped for which all combined may lead to an apocalypse. The dinosaurs didn't go extinct because of one rock but because of the events leading up to it as well. I need a cuddle 😅

  • @TheZeroEffect 💯% my thoughts exactly! The only difference is that I don’t think musk is trying to drive down the price, he’s just trying to find a way out period lol, but he bit off more than he could chew with this one and realized that he’s overpaying wayyy too much / the competing platform is surpassing downloads by a large margin (there’s goes twitters half market share) / and ad revenue will split …. He is trying to find reasons to exist … even invited the sec to investigate the accuracy in bot 🤖 amounts 😂 (remember, Elon hasn’t had the best relationship with the sec in forever) , & now I honestly think he would rather pay the $1 billion dollar penalty for not going through with it … (but 1 billion dollar stings, so he’s trying to exit without even paying that), but now Twitter is trying to force his hands (when they originally didn’t want to sell to begin with …. I think the favor in the buyout is I twitters’ hands …. By alot. They can’t lose & trust me the sec will be in their side 😬

Maybe he ends up making his own platform. He has the engineers and the money already. Also, don't know the language for the $1B penalty if he backs out, but if he can prove it's for cause (them lying or refusing to give him the numbers on bots), then maybe he might be able to get out of that too.

Considering twitter stock has dropped as well as Tesla's, I think this is a negotionation. The 23 billion Elon personally contributed to the 46 billion is based on loans backed by his Tesla shares. But, he has a point, if he's going for a revenue stream based on ads, he needs to know how many eyes will actually see the ads which is another point of leverage for a negotiation for the deal.

  • @pantseatpilot same here but the opposite. I've been following JD my entire life basically and only heard of Elon due to his affair with AH. But Elon is the one that makes my gut hurt. But I can appreciate what he offers professionally while judging him personally on the low. 😅

    Good point @Saysoh !

@TheZeroEffect Im really liking your thought process !! There was literally no need to even consider buying Twitter 😅 he could have done his own platform & with his cool factor alone he would’ve taken a huge market share!!! This wasn’t even a thought in my mind! 🥂

@Saysoh that is 100% true ! I saw twitters response to this very statement & they stated that when Musk offered the buyout, he did not show any interest on the actual business model at all, (will see if I can find it) he offered the buyout as is so they’re trying to say that the 🤖 amount is irrelevant… & now musk is shinning a bad light on the reality which is not good for Twitter moving forward, so now they want to exist (they’re not even happy with the $1 billion penalty, they are trying to bypass that & force his hand (this is the part where I think Elon bit more than he could chew. And trust me I’m a big fan of Elon going back since 2012.
