Lol least you're local enough to enjoy it. Everyone else gets to live vicariously through this post. Didn't I send you off with banana bread in the past? If not, I'm gonna next time lol
@MissAdventurous Yes indeed..lucky to be local. Haven’t had the pleasure of trying your banana bread..need to put that into the agenda for next time 😊
I'm a foodie too. I've been stalking this forum for a while lol enjoying the food pics . I enjoy cooking. Here's my homemade shrimp dish I prepared for one of my client.
Love it @CaringSoul ❤️🥰🥰
Salmon dish 🥰
@MissAdventurous: Oh, heaven. Want.
@MissAdventurous What kind of greens are in the salmon dish? The whole thing looks good.
@DaringSprinter curtsy I'd send some your way but I don't think It'd be as fresh as you'd prefer.
@achetocuddle Bok choy and kale from my garden, sauteed 🥰
@MissAdventurous: It's a real shame fish doesn't go through the mail too well. I envy the people in your vicinity!
You take such good food photos. They always make my mouth water.
@MissAdventurous You grow some of your greens too. Wow. I admire your posts to this site, your cooking and presentation, growing some of your own food.
Unfortunately this photo does not accurately reflect the color which is a brilliant, beautiful, intense deep pink.
Home made strawberry ice cream with home grown strawberries.
@MissAdventurous your fish looks so flavorful and healthy! @Babichev dod you get the strawberries from your patch? What kind of ice cream maker did you use? Your ice cream looks so lovely!
@CaringSoul your dish looks fresh and tasty too!!
@Babichev: Nice! My uncle had an ice cream maker (hand-cranked originally, but he hooked a motor up to it later) and my grandpa grew strawberries, but somehow we never thought to combine them. Looks delicious.
@Nature_Lover_ - yes, I’ve gathered a total of about 7 lbs over three pickings. I went today expecting another 2 lbs but only got about 4 berries. We had several days of intense rain and they got waterlogged and I lost the last bunch. It’s okay, I’ve been enjoying them every day since after the picnic. I’ve got a small patch of some later ones, we’ll see how that goes.
@DaringSprinter - I used a hand cranked churn when I was a kid and later in my early 20s while I was homesteading in the Ozarks. My neighbor had a cow and the very first batch of ice cream I made as an adult was strawberry.
I’ve not got an electric Cuisinart which I purchased for $6 in a thrift shop. In fact, I have two (both purchased at thrift shops for $6) so that I can have two canisters. There have been times when I’ve made two different batches in close succession and they need to sit in the freezer for 24 hours to freeze the ice cream sufficiently.
The biggest problem for me with the hand cranked one wasn’t the cranking, it was having a supply of crushed ice. Ice cubes are too big. We’d smash ice with a hammer in a bag. You need to add rock salt to it, too. That was quite a mess and a hassle.
What is cool about the electric one is that the canister is the perfect size for a one quart yogurt container. I’ve driven 6+ hours with a container of ice cream inside the canister in a cooler and it has kept frozen. It’s fun to show up at a friend’s place with a quart of home made ice cream.
I love making different kinds. One of my favorites is doughnut ice cream. It tastes just like a glazed doughnut. It’s really good and has an almost chewy texture to it. Another favorite is white peach with rose water sorbet. Also Italian plum ice cream or sorbet, they are both delicious. Green apple with fresh tarragon sorbet is exceptionally good. And I’ve made pandan ice cream, a flavor I love that is uncommon in the west but used in the Phillipines like we use vanilla. It’s somewhat like vanilla but a little more like toasted almond/toasted coconut.
My strawberries turned out to be more tart than sweet but with the addition of a little sugar they packed a LOT of flavor.
Mmmm homemade ice cream.
That's something I haven't done yet, feeling inspired @Babichev
@MissAdventurous and @Nature_Lover_ thank you ❤️. I'm a real foodie too & cooking is one of my hobbies.
