HAPPY THURSDAY TO ALL!

I love cuddling, but I also enjoy saving money. I want to encourage people on Cuddle Comfort to participate in the $5 Savings Challenge with me, starting December 1st. This will be fun AND challenging; however, I am going to motivate and support you along with other participants.

Some of you reading this post may be aware of the rules of the $5 Savings Challenge already, but I'm going to put it out there for those who do not know (It's simple):

Any $5 bill that you get a hold of, you save it!!! So, let's say you go to the store, and you happen to break a $20 bill. If there's a $5 in your change, you make sure to put it aside. Someone gives you a $5, you save it. You turn five singles into a $5, you save it. Sounds simple, right?

There is a number of reasons why saving is an excellent habit to engage in even when your circumstances are not the most ideal.

***You are welcome to put forth other saving ideas and tips on this post. In my opinion, this is a discussion worth having.

But the main objective is to "recruit" folks to be apart of my $5 Savings "Cult" Challenge. Follow me! Follow me! Let's share ways to accumulate cash that can benefit us greatly in the future from emergency fund money to a nice vacation. I will not condemn you; you do have free-will! lol :)

-You are welcome to save more than $5 any chance you get. $5 is a great start to this challenge, especially if you are accustomed to spending a lot of money regularly.
-Do not count the money until the challenge is up. It makes it more exciting.
-This challenge can be as long as you'd like it to be. But if you want to test it out, I'll say start off with 6 months. I think a full year is pretty sweet!
-I highly recommend reading insightful articles about this challenge. They are inspiring since these articles are written by people who have actually done the $5 Savings Challenge.

Thanks for your time! This is it--let's make it happen!

Cool idea. I’m headed to Florida the last days of January. I’m going to try this between now and then. Two days prior to my 1/27/2018 departure, I’ll count the fivers and see how close it comes to providing my spending money for this trip. I’ll try remember to report back.

  • Minimalism is good for saving cash. Also good for the environment. You don't spend a lot of money or produce much waste when you don't really buy much.

  • Interesting idea... but fit more into the stranger collector habit. Took me wile to get out of quarter collecting habit of all the states. More value looking for and collecting silver coins and copper pennies before they start making them with cheaper metals.

Best way to save money I found... is sitting down and figuring out budget plan. Separating expenses into needs and wants. Best fortune cookie I ever read told me "work for what I need... wish for what I want". The statement struck hard... but I'll allow my wants if they will improve my needs.

Budget planning is best way of seeing where you stand... can even lesson the fighting in house hold. When people clearly see where they stand.

Figuring out cost of basic life with bills and needs. Such as the utilities, cost of food and shopping for basic needs. After that giving your self an allowance and sitting money aside for saving's.

@JasonCuddles Learning minimalism and frugal living can maximize saving money. We are very material focus culture now and living life lazy and fast. So most likely will not grasp the idea.
But starter habits to pick up are recycling and limiting how wasteful you are. More advance would be learning skills that save you money and doing task so you do not have to pay others to do them.
Having friends that you can trade and barter with. Meaning you can do some thing for them you find easy and they can do some thing for you that easy for them. But often friends are there for one anther any way and big task are better done in groups... in the sense tribal focus of working together and getting more done.

Strange maybe or advance habits to saving money I do.
Not eating out at all, always bring food and water with me when going out. Exception are going to potluck, invited to meal with friends and family. But hate getting some thing for nothing, so happy to help with doing dishes or helping in some other way.
Buying in bulk and on sales when I know it not going to be wasteful. Not caring about brands when item do what you need just the same.
I recently learn to pressure cook. Take time investment here and there but save one allot of time later. My freezer and fridge are half as full now. Shelf are getting will stocked with pressure cook jars I can open at any time. And food not going to wast in fridge. Anther month and mite be thinking of selling the freezer when meat in it is pressure cooked up. So one less thing on the electric bill.
Warmer temps I'll be one to marinate barbq/smoker.... and then dry meat to make my own jerky sense the store bot is over price and often very poor in flavor.

***hmmm... probably have rabbled to much but you did ask for saving idea and tips... best to just push the life style that will lead to it.

Hardest problem most people face is the more money they make... the more ways they find to spend it.

Best way to learn what you really need is when you do not have it any more.

Smirks with a evil thought to challenge people to live on $5 a day. Easy mod being it your food and entertainment spending. Mua! HA! HA! HA!
Simple way also of dealing with kids asking for allowance... teaches them real life with dealing with money but now there going to have cost to there life to.

  • I can spend $5 a day, not including housing/heating/electricity/etc. Spending less than $5 on food is not that hard and I am cheap to entertain(games/netflix). It really helps that I am not particularly social and don't spend much money on going out....at all.

  • There a reason I called that easy mod.
Hard mod living on that out of car...can almost picture some poor kid going to college or learning a trade doing it to. Trying to better once life with out going into debt. Until they get grants or scholarship to help them.
    Medium mod be getting double.
Mild be getting triple to live on.

You cut out house hold expenses and pay for gym pass. One can look like your leading a normal life.

Material possessions are going rack up once cost of living rather quickly... Places that tie you down all to easy to set up cost of living that will drain you of your money. As the little things add up or simple get more costly. Cost of living in big city can easily be 10 times or more then a place a hours drive away.

Become a part of good and helpful community to one anther your cost of living be nothing but the time you put in to return the help they give you.

I would go nuts if I did not be social and get out.

Going out to parks and trails. Volunteering my time to the community is great ways I get out and be social. Keep eye open and learning about local events that will not cost me any thing.

I love this! Thank you guys for taking time to share your input. :)

I hope to hear from more people on the site. It would be really great. I figured this post could motivate people to be more efficient with money and convince those who are frugal to share useful tips. I think both sides understand that saving can be rewarding!

  • Spending money to save money... I always see as foolish. Sense often lead me to spend more then I should.
And then there are the strange looks.

Restaurant supply store asking me what restaurant I am picking up for.

Last week walmart had dozen pint mason jars for $5 and not been finding any at thrift stores so stocked up on. Go through check out and checkout lady looking at me like I am nuts with 25 dozen mason jars in the cart. Second cart through the line she seem to have need to count three time how many where in the cart.

Yes it was a total of 50 dozen pint mason jars I bot.... do not think I will need any more. Less this single man goes from cooking for him self... to cooking for girlfriend or family set up. Then it time to get the quart and half gallon jars out of storage.

Then there was yesterday.... ummm. I did a good thing... even if it save me money later. And got couple radium thing free. Place I like go and board game and play little D&D had a toy drive going for kids. Buy toy for kids from the place and donated it you get some raffle ticket and 50% off coupon to buy some thing for you self later.
So I spent a $100 buy 10 toys for kids... so 10 50% off coupon later to use. Could end of saving me $25 to $50 on books or boardgames I mite use the coupons on each time. Yet got couple big and nice posters I put value of $65 maybe more from the raffle.
So I am feeling a bit like a thief. Now planning how to use the 50% off coupons that wont expire until March. Debating giving a couple coupons away to friends as gifts.

  • I've always wanted to play D&D but I've never had any good opportunities :(

If the objective is being efficient with cash I have a few more things I do.

-Buying large quantities of non-perishables or long shelf life items when they're on sale
-Making things like pizza dough and such from scratch(this can be healthier as well)
-If you munch beans getting dry instead of canned is quite a bit cheaper
-Where I live spices are really expensive at the supermarket so I order mine online from omfoods

  • Been only playing D&D and little pathfinder last couple months... sign up for meetup.com see if there any groups getting together in your area or some place your open to traveling to. It a nice way find group outing of any kind that maybe free or put on business to get you to spend money at the place the meetup are happening at.

If you got the money to invest in the books maybe start your own group... simply going home brew will also let imagination go wild. But hardest part will always be matching people times there able to meet up.

D&D Adventurers League may point you to location organized by wizards of the coast. If your looking to get into it more then just home-brewing. And groups strike me as very happy to teach the game to others... yet you will feel a great need to buy the books there using.
@JasonCuddles Seeing 6 possible place around Calgary for you. From using this link below.
    http://dnd.wizards.com/playevents/organized-play

-First thing my Mother teached was to make noodles that she learned from her Grandmother.
-Beans take alot of time to cook... when they must be sorted get bad ugly once and rocks out. Then there soaking and rinsing stuff out of the beans that can make you sick. But once you cook your own beans you never go back to can... cause it just baby food mush.
-laughs look into keto pizza crust if you like to learn how crazy healthy pizza crust can be. Wondering how long it going to be before keto cauliflower pizza crust are on pizza place menus. But I see the use of it for some on gluten free diet... but ground almond or ground flaxseed pizza dough sound more interesting to me. Personally it all to many carbs for my version of keto wile I am sticking to my diet.
-2 oz spice jars are the biggest cone job in the stores. At least go looking for 5 pound spice at a bulk place. Buy five to 10 pounds of spice online each pound will be same cost of that 2 to 1 oz jar in stores. Spice are best fresh but there a high premium for it. When really nothing wrong with old or lesser quality spices that can be allot cheaper and use little more. And more spices when it comes to pickling can help keep vegetable crunchy and firm. Easy to get lost in all verity of spices that can be found online to... a true cooks dream of choices.

Thought my Mother was going to kill me first time I bot spice box online of 20 pounds of dill. But she got use to the fact of it costing ten times less but having to use two times as much to get same flavor she wanted... Honestly I think she was using more cause I was not complaining over the price.

@JasonCuddles try checking out your local games and/or comic shop for DnD games, most have several each week and its a good place to find players. Also Roll20 is an online DnD platform that is used by many.

I’m doing the $5 Bill saving challenge. Short term, it is leaving me cash-poor. Seems to be a shortage of 10-dollar bills in my area. Nearly every time I break a 20, I get 2 or 3 fives fit the stash!

  • [Deleted User]SexyBrit (deleted user)

Alas I very rarely carry cash on me these days ..

  • Yeah I will check out the D&D places you guys have mentioned. I have found a few ones but they get together on days that don't work for me :(

  • I just check my bank account on pay day and put any money I have left over from last month into my savings account.

I don't really get what this has to do with cuddling, though. If I travel to cuddle someone, I'm pretty sure I'm losing money. Public transportation is so expensive!
