One place which I loved visiting as a kid which barely exists in its original form today - and certainly not anything left near me - was Radio Shack. I could spend hours going through their parts and kits to figure out fun things to build. Another place which was around till more recently - but stopped existing in a form which I enjoyed going to as a kid years before it disappeared altogether - was Fry's Electronics. Same sort of stuff, fewer stores but their stores were much cooler and had really good variety of techie gear which I enjoyed just browsing through.
Glen Echo Amusement Park, it was in MD. Just out of Washington DC, we would take a tourist type boat to the park and when it closed for the night we would ride it back home. They knocked it all down to build houses.
Oh my gosh what about drive in movies? I know there might be one or two here or there but they use to be everywhere!

Used to go to a local diner down the road that ended up closing down, and the same for the local Chinese restaurant. Both were staples of my childhood in terms of going out to eat at least.
We now have a different Chinese restaurant which is takeaway only rather than the eat-in kind, and a similar-ish diner. They're both alright but it's not the same.

It's been replaced by a vegan cafe which I've heard great things about, the peri peri chicken place on the left that you can see a bit of has been replaced with a different peri peri chicken place (or they rebranded, not sure). And the one on the right is the same still.

If you’re from Nyc or was a tourist, chances are you came across Tad’s Steakhouse … it was very delicious / very affordable / steaks 🥩 cooked on a fire 🔥 grill right in front of you & the most delicious garlic bread in life served cafeteria style …. After more than 60 years in business the pandemic forced them to shut down in the city with only 1 location remaining in San Francisco (you guys are lucky!) 🥺

@Mama_Ang I remember my first time inside a borders. Huge! Multiple stories. So many books! It was like heaven. We still have Barnes and noble in md but each store was different . Crown books used to be all over the mall and Walden or waiden book store.

The Cedar Point Amusement park in Sandusky it was called the Funhouse it was an upside down house it was there from 1950 to 1981. It was filled with all kinds of fun things, and upside down room with an old lady in a rocking chair with a cat next to her in one room , tunnels cool mirrors, And a bridge that was spinning that made you dizzy.@OhioMike do you remember it?

Tri-City Raceway was a 1/2-mile race track in Richland, Washington. I visited that track countless times from my early childhood in the 80s until the final race was held in 2003. I saw hundreds of auto races there, and fondly remember the sound of roaring engines, the smell of burning rubber and gasoline, the indescribable experience of thirty race cars thundering past the grandstands. The track was torn down several years after I moved to Florida, and I refuse to look at any images of what the area looks like now. I'd rather remember it as it was.
I remember that I was able to go to the grocery store as a kid. Sadly that's gone now and it's illegal to have a smaller one in the community that would be sustainable so now we are all forced to drive to get food. It's pathetic, really.
Pizza Hut used to have those really nice dine-in restaurants...until they decided to copy Domino's pizza. Focusing mostly on delivery is more profitable I guess.

@OhioMike Sure could! And a small family could nearly live in the trunk. The mighty Buick! I've had two and I wish I had one right now. Once I was talking to a retired salesman that saw my car (a Lucerne) in a shopping center parking lot. He said "The engineering that is in that car...it will stand up to anything on the road". A Buick is a thing of beauty:)
