@Sideon Thank you for the reply. I was worried that my comment was going to just be brushed aside.

Is it possible to make it a requirement when signing up to fill in their profile?

  • @EagleCuddles - that's not in any plan that I know of. When people sign up, most want to take time to write and think about what they want to say. I don't see forcing a bio or about me as conducive to their taking the time to writing something thoughtful versus panicked that they HAVE to write a profile.

  • And I don't want to read a rushed, forced profile. That's no way to get to know someone.

  • What I have found interesting with newer profiles lately is this:

I get new visitors to my profile (yes it happens ) and when I return look at theirs its usually blank etc., but a few days later it is filled out and even with lots profile pics !

I think maybe sometimes our newer members look around some and view us older members and then the light goes off to work on their profiles some. Just my thought. It is cool to see the changes.

  • @OhioMike I agree... I think what happens is, peoples' profiles go live the second they join, and we see them blank thinking they aren't putting any effort in, but they just haven't had a chance to build it, yet.

  • @SunsetSnuggles yep, and the join date just has the month and year right? So if someone joined June 2022 have they been here for 3 weeks or just today?

  • @OhioMike Precisely. :#

@Sideon @achetocuddle I understand your view of a rushed profile. However, I believe it helps verify that the person behind the profile is at the very least not a bot rather than hurting their profile.

@SunsetSnuggles I simple "Will fill this out later" or "Just checking this site out" is quick and concise, but lets people know your intentions or that you intend to build a bio later.

  • EagleCuddles It could help verify in that way and make it nicer/easier/more convenient for the person perusing the profile. But there are other considerations.

I didn't tag this person because I thought to look at their profile first and they have blocked me. Perhaps they have done us both a favor? Best wishes on your cuddle quest everyone.

  • Aside from not being able to sort by distance (why?), if I'm checking out cuddlers in another area the distance is measured from where my profile is based. But the whole point is I'm searching in an area NOT where I'm based, so I have no sense of how far the travel would be from where I'm going.

The workaround I assume is to change where I'm based but I'm really not until I actually travel there. Not to mention it would throw off people in that area because now my profile would show up in their searches,

The solution may be not worth the time and effort but sorting by distance (or price for that matter) must be possible.

  • Mods & @achetocuddle I am also blocked by that same user, even though we haven't interacted...but I've seen that with another user who saw me comment such and they had no idea, and did not click that button. Perhaps there is a glitch somewhere? It seems to happen with people on this and the Map thread. (I've seen others mention being blocked by newbies, with no idea as to why.) I do get that people can be blocked for any reason, but I'm starting to suspect a bug. Just throwing it out there.

  • @SunsetSnuggles when you say blocked, do you mean when messaging? I cannot see any block between you and @achetocuddle, seems your both able to see and message each other

an edit button is already here my bad

  • @Gary I was just tagging her in the conversation, sorry; the user in question (who, perhaps purposefully or through a glitch, has myself and @achetocuddle blocked) is @EagleCuddles.

    Thanks for looking into this!

  • Thanks for the further information. I notice @EagleCuddles contributed to this thread recently, maybe they can confirm if the block was setup by them and it's not a bug?

  • That would be great, @EagleCuddles!

A third person has PM'd me letting me know they are also inexplicably blocked, with no interactions.

  • I agree with @EagleCuddles . A filter to filter out smokers is something that should be added to the search options.

Also I ran into the same issue to regarding the profiles. There needs to be an actual requirement for the profile description before making an account here. I agree, a short little "I'm just checking this site out" is not that hard people, gosh.

  • When you block somebody, make all their posts in the forum hidden by default with the option to view it (similar to the spoilers)

I would second @Mike403, except plenty of people block just to cut down on search results, and are still fine with chatting in the forum. Hmm. Maybe offer the suggested feature as an extra option when blocking?

  • @DaringSprinter - Or implement other ways to filter search results. Blocking should be when you dont want to talk to someone.

  • @Mike403 agree. I haven't blocked anyone. I can't believe how many people have blocked me, for completely unknown reasons. I would only block someone if they were harassing me in messages. Blocking seems a little overused here for reasons I don't fully understand. 🤔

  • @ubergigglefritz I puzzled over this for a while. It turns out that some people use blocking as an expression of emotion. So if they are angry or frustrated, and that emotion can be directed towards somebody, they block them. I suspect it's a kind of low grade version of throwing crockery.

Another one could be described as 'triggering'. If something about you reminds them of something unpleasant, they block you.

  • I was once on a dating site "Plenty of Fish" that automatically banned your account if you got blocked by too many people. It was the stupidest thing. The bot must have figured you were harassing people when in fact people block if they are just not interested in someone.

  • @CuddleDuncan I was going to start a thread about this the other day, it just came up here, so I mentioned it. 🤷‍♀️ A little off topic. I find it an interesting characteristic. Even on Facebook, I am VERY slow to block there, though I HAVE blocked people there for harassment. In general, I don't like to close myself off to other people, perspectives, possible connections, etc. It feels very important to me, maybe to a fault (FOMO?). Other people seem a lot more willing and interested in it, the positive I guess is their interest in keeping negative energy out of their life. 🤷‍♀️ But I think it speaks to something bigger, and maybe something we could all be self reflective on...

  • @Mike403 wow. Interesting that this behavior extends onto sites like that. And that possibly indicates a change in culture that should be reflected in updated programming for flagging problems. 😝

  • @ubergigglefritz - It made a little more sense on sites like that. A woman got messaged by a guy she wasn't interested in so she wanted to make sure that he can't message her again. Some guys can't take "no" as an answer and they message multiple times.

  • @Mike403 right, but why block before men have the chance to choose? Like I said, I think this change goes deeper, if people were interested in looking.

  • @ubergigglefritz - I don't think anyone blocked there until they got messaged by someone they weren't interested in. I wonder how it would have gone if it had a forum section like this site.

  • @Mike403 messaging once or responding to your last message once, even one respectful follow-up, is not harassment and there is no need for blocking. Attacking, insulting, getting angry for disinterest, continually pestering, etc, that's harassment that could warrant blocking. 🤷‍♀️ Why is our society blocking excessively? That's my question. I think it's indicative of a bigger change.
