One of the vehicles my parents had when I was a kid had sort of a bench seat in front... it also had a stick shift, so whenever I rode up front between my mom and dad, the driver and I usually ended up doing a complicated dance involving their right hand and both my knees.
At a guess, the bench seats went away when people realized you can't put an airbag in a radio.

Not sure. My childhood was in Ukraine so maybe several things no longer exist there because of the war. I will know for sure as soon as the war ends so I can go there again.

Blockbuster! I grew up poor and going to blockbuster and picking out a movie was our treat. And if it was an extra special occasion we got to pick out a candy in the checkout line.
