They say money doesn't bring happiness...I would advise all lotto winners to pass their winning ticket to me as I conduct a scientific experiment for mankind jt would be a great contribution to society for you to participate In This study with the forfeiture of your winnings so that I may put forth the most extensive research by buying houses cars clothes and various items to see if my happiness will increase your contribution will save Ives and change the world 😊

All jokes aside money is just a tool. Money can only solve money problems not deep depression or having a genuine friend to talk to during a funeral. It can buy a babysitter so that if you have kids you and wife can go play. It has its perks but it's use is limited

No one has won as a result the jackpot has hit 1 billion. The drawing is tommorow this Friday 7/29. Am I the only one that thinks I only really need 20million and I'll be fine for life. 1 billion seems like overkill.

Although you only need 2 million to live off dividendpayout stocks.

Economists say that there really isn't too much of happiness increase once you reach 20million or more

With 20million Set aside 1 to 5 million to make all the mistakes you can make and you still got plenty left over

    I want everyone to be clear that there are a lot of taxes involved with such large jackpots, but after taxes if you take the lump sum comes out to over 600,000 million dollars (depends on the state, though). But that is still a lot of money. I am not going to lie, I am probably going to get a ticket tomorrow for the very tiny chance I might win the money because it is nice to dream what I would do with all of that money. And plus, it would be nice to be set for life.

    Many people were "lucky" enough to win the lottery ended up going bankrupt. You're better off trying to get rich slowly(getting an education, advancing your career, and invest) because then you learn how to manage your money better during the journey.

    @Mike403 I don't buy lottery tickets for the same reason. But if NewLife or Bryan or any other nice people win I will be thrilled for them.

    That is very true. Sometimes it van bring out the greediness in people. To make it worse, someone will claim they are your friend and will only think about what you are going to give them. Some of the winners have spent it all without even thinking about how to make it last for the rest of their lifetime.

    I understand how likely a person is to win the lottery but for the cost it can be harmless entertainment. For a chance at winning over a million dollars not spending one dollar seems foolish to me. But i have a dollar to spare, if you don’t you shouldn’t play. I’m going to buy an extra ticket.

    @BashfulLoner - There was one woman who spent her rent money buying hundreds of lottery tickets thinking she was gonna win big. When she didn't win, she set up a GoFundMe page asking people to give her money. I hope nobody sent her one red cent.

    Yes, it is harmless as long as you understand the odds and don't go crazy.

    I think it worries make v people happier but v only while they had the money - one byhe money runs out they willn probably bec more miserable than before they had the money.

    If you set up goals for yourself career wise and get rich that way, you have built a character for yourself which will last a life time. If you win the lottery, you instantly become John or Jane Doe, the stiff who won all that cash. You will no longer know who your real friends are. People might be staying in your life waiting for you to give them something.

    @BashfulLoner I have a very intelligent friend who sees it like you do. Understanding what you are doing and playing for fun with realistic expectations makes total sense to me, even tho I prefer not to. I would rather buy an ice cream cone, but I would be better off playing the lottery since I am weak for ice cream and eat too much already. Lol.

    @Mike403 you are taking a strong stance. It’s a buck or 3, if someone is spending their rent that’s a different problem. A chance to possibly win big is less expensive than the possibility lost by taking a strong stance it this. I mean if you don’t want to play that’s fine, but to insult others choices so strongly i think is wrong.

    I beg to differ. That kind of money, even after taxes, would provide me a gold-paved road to happiness. No worries about how to provide for my kid, keeping a roof over our heads etc. Be able to afford to go fishing and do the other things that make life worth living.

I didn’t feel insulted for me, i felt insulted for other people. Even more reason for me to shut up. I m trying to lead by example.

    The payout is nowhere near a billion. Taxes. If others hit the same number it has to be shared. If taken in a lump sum the payout is much less. It would still be well over 100 million but nowhere near a billion. You'd be financially set for life as would your descendants.

    Yet remember the song about the man winning the lottery and dying the next day. He was 98 but it could happen at any age. One can buy the best health care yet can't guard against accident, sickness and death. You might be set for years or decades but that's a drop in the ocean considering eternity.

    Then there are the stories about people who win the lottery and their lives are destroyed because they no longer have to work and idleness and excess and indulgence can be damaging. The likelihood of this happening might be exaggeratied but it does occur.

    Now after throwing a wet blanket over the thread I'll end on a high note. Good luck to anyone who got a ticket and I'd sure Ike to win a lottery. I'd even be happy winning one million :)
