I'm curious what some of your experiences were on both ends pros and cuddlers. People who have scammed others have made it hard for me to have sessions and it's unfortunate. But I want to hear from all of you do that I can have some perspective
I'll be happy to share some of my experiences around this, but privately. Not too crazy about posting any of that here.
I’m super interested to know as well because I’ve encountered some CRAZINESS on CC so far and I keep having to add to my “rules” which I don’t like doing because it makes me come across as a prude.
Two enthusiasts that tried to charge me and then proceeded to get banned.
I have had three catfishers that I had fun stringing along.
It is kinda fun to string along the catfishers. It's usually not hard cause they assume an older woman will put up with a lot. Beware of guys whose profile pic has them with their kids. Those guys get banned some also.
I'm personally against divulging too much information that can be used to further scam or give those with predatory intentions ideas. It's best to just use common sense here. Here's a few things new members can do to stay safe and protect themselves.
Don't meet without a recent photo or zoom call.
Make your boundaries clear before meeting.
Let people you trust know where you're going (address) and who with. Give approx check in times.
If it sounds too good to be true it is. Don't be that person who happily accepts a cuddling proposal across the country. It's dangerous and stupid.
Small deposits towards the session price are not unheard of but use your better judgement.
If a new pro with little to no karma is pushing full payment before meeting, find another pro. There's nothing stopping them from closing their account. Just as clients and enthusiasts need to prove that they are trustworthy, so do pros.
If someone tries to charge you as an untagged pro, Report them.
Report pros /members who are being clearly flirty, make sexual advances / requests, ask for karma for karma without meeting, The mods are pretty damn good at checking for a history of questionable behavior.
I don't like to share much info that might help predators either. One good thing about some people who need to be banned is they tend to not read much, including this forum.
@Rezz - thank you. As always. Yours is a much needed voice of reason on here. The online world is a gamut of catfishing, fake accounts, time-wasters, and boredom - practice some common sense and good judgement, people. We do our best here to help protect this slice of the internet, but it's a collective and communal responsibility. Report and flag. Thanks, all.
@Rezz Just looking for clarification. You are talking about accepting a cuddle proposal from someone across country AND then traveling to them right? I ask because I travel all over for work and I book in advance but I travel to their city. Am I understanding that correctly?
@Sideon thank you ( ꈍᴗꈍ)
@FunCartel Sorry, I should have been a bit clearer. I'm only referencing offers for all expenses paid proposals across the country or for commonly long driving distances. (. ❛ ᴗ ❛.)
Accepting proposals from traveling members is very typical and should be treated the same as local clients, screen first.
@Rezz Thank you
I haven't been scammed here, but I keep getting calls from someone claiming to be from Amazon saying that someone is attempting to purchase an iPhone for $1,200 on my account and I have to give up my personal info to stop the charge.
I’ve never been scammed here but those that try to scam are behaving the same as those that end up in your spam folder. There is probably a 2 sentence difference in the pitch.
I have a funny scam story I can share.
The other morning I got a message - while I was online - from a new member and it just screamed “Scammer!” to me. The too good photo, the sappy opening message from someone too far away to meet. Normally I ignore them but I was in a mood so I responded. Then I went to check reports and someone had reported him for making a rude remark. And then my phone rang. I’ve stopped answering unless I recognize the number because every day, 3 - 4 times a day, I get a phone call from this scammy company that uses a different phone number every time. This time I decided to answer. Yep, it was them. I decided to string them out so I chatted with them for 10 minutes, asking lots of questions. Then finally I told them I knew they were scammers and I was reporting them to the Do Not Call list. So after I got off the phone I sent my CC scammer a message about having just chatted on the phone with a scammer and what did he think about that? Unfortunately I never got to find out how he would respond because @reurbo banned him and spoiled my fun. However, what’s the chances of being hit by two scammer at the exact same time?
But I agree, this is not really a good topic to go into. Warn people, yes. Share information that could make it easier for scammers to scam people? Nope.
For awhile there was a lot of scammer accounts being made on the site, both of women and men and some even making it through to be listed as Pros (mostly of women but I think there were a couple men too). It was beginning to get intricate enough the accounts were leaving Karma for one another, sometimes 3-6 of them, but this only helped us with linking them to one another and rolling out countless bans to clear them out.
So, Pros are allowed to charge a deposit they set or up to the full amount for the session before ever meeting in person. The hard part is scammers were using this system as a means to get payments through cashapp, venmo, zelle, and gift cards as payment before meeting. Many times they'd also giving a phone number or email address early on to take the conversation off-site quickly (without using the site booking system), do this to as many people as they could before getting reported and banned, and sadly they would sometimes succeed.
The best thing that has come up though was recent and it was the one time when that 2 different scammers were chatting and both trying to run their scam on one another. That was a good laugh! Both were banned I think before they realized the other was also trying to run a scam.
@reurbo , I’ve often wondered what happens when two scammers meet.
Eh... not scammed, but I was just stood up.
I’ve often wondered what happens when two scammers meet.
Go to Nigeria and you will find out.
@FunCartel why go to Nigeria when you can watch cable news here.
@BashfulLoner Yes, but in Nigeria the scammer is the crown prince if you read the e-mails closely. Royalty trumps talking heads on tv. 🤣
That Nigerian Prince return address is in Boston tho
@BookishGuy sorry to read your post. I was stood up last week as well. No fun.
Scam post removed for safety reasons.
Most of my experiences have been with wannabe date scammers on dating sites. During the years I was married, they pretty much took over sites like Match. (My personal favorite was the one who claimed to work for the UN, then said she was stranded in a European country and couldn't get home unless I sent her $1500 ,,, cause, you know, the UN can't fly its employees home.) In 2013, date scamming was a $600 million a year business in Russia alone ... God knows what it is now.
@MxSmith thats super scary
@MxSmith That address thing is worrisome. Maybe just meet somewhere and then go to your place?
Yeah it is scary, but I can attest that it has not happened since the deposit policy. 🤷🏻♀️ I'm actually going to remove my last post.
My apologies for making people feel unsafe. I just thought about this question because I wanted to understand why a cuddler was hesitant about my booking fee. He said it was because he was scammed to many times before, but tbh I'm just not buying it. Especially when the booking fee is nothing compared to how much I would make if I just actually cuddled. Also, I had advice on here to ask for a 50% deposit prior the session to avoid cancellations. But I can't help but to think about how some people might assume this is a red flag. Anyway! Thank you to everyone that responded to this talking about this privately does seem like a better idea
@theCuddleDrgn some people won't pay deposits here, and that's fine - it's up to you whether you want one, and up to them whether they pay it.
It's worth experimenting with different deposit amounts to see if you get different results. My knowledge of and experience of deposits is in other contexts and may not carry over, but in all of those different circumstances the amount of the deposit made very little difference providing it was not entirely trivial.
In other words a 10% or 20% deposit might be just as effective at preventing cancellations and no shows, but may meet much less resistance from prospective clients.
Never been catfished or scammed on CC. but I keep getting a phishing email supposedly from "Amazon" saying my account has been suspended and to click a link they provide. DO NOT DO IT. SCAM!!!
