Cuddles for depression?

In my previous post to this forum i told everyone that my dad had passed away and it sucked and everything. Well, a couple weeks later i was diagnosed with depression. Lately i have been feeling down and just like blah. I don't feel like doing anything drastic or anything like that. Just feel down and in the dumps and everything like that when everything is going alright in my life thus far. As a person who loves the feeling that cuddling gives me i got to thinking that maybe cuddling will help with making me depressed less. Like, maybe it will make me happier. Living alone like i do and being in a part of the state where apparently it is a cuddle free zone it kind of makes me wonder but i am trying to be positive. So here is my invitation. I am looking to just have some cuddles ( as is everyone here i imagine). I don't have a vehicle at the moment so they would have to come here but for a few hours of cuddles it would be worth it plenty. I would do professional cuddles but my funds are extremely limited and cant really afford the pro cuddle prices unfortunately but i am sure that they are fantastic. Anyway, If anyone is up for the challenge i am located in Alpena Mi. Thanks for reading and i hope that everyone is doing splendiferous.

  • Cuddling has definitely helped me with depression.

  • See and that's awesome! I think that if i had a cuddle person i would be happier and just have a better outlook on things for sure. :)

  • Love your hair!!! 💙💙💙 And with words like SPLENDIFEROUS you will hopefully have no problems connecting with people.

    WELCOME-ish to the community!

  • Thank you and hopefully you are right. :)

@musicalman33 I have battled serious depression for most of my life. No medication has ever worked. Cuddles will certainly be a helpful activity but those cuddle good feelings are temporary. Along with cuddling do all those other things that you like, add new activities and stay active. For me, too much down time allows all those demons to play around in my head.
I wish you all the best in finding many good cuddles.

  • Thanks and i agree, the feelings are temporary and have been doing things to keep my mind off of things for sure.

  • I’m really sorry to hear you lost your dad. Too bad you’re almost 600 miles from where I am. I hope you’re able to find someone closer to home. Participating in the forums definitely works in your favor. It gives folks a chance to get to know you. You never know who may be reading or who may be traveling through town.

  • Thank you, I hope that i am able to find someone too, i think that maybe all i need is a good cuddle. I agree, it gives people a chance to know me more and such :)

It depends entirely on your cuddle partner and the connection between you. Also, a partner may find cuddling with someone who’s depressed emotionally draining. Your partner may well have issues too and be unable/unwilling to take on the burden. I learned this the hard way when a wonderful long-term cuddle partner rather abruptly stopped meeting with me when my depression resurfaced and carried over into our shared experience.
It CAN help, but tread carefully!
    Good luck, and be well.

  • Definitely going to be treading carefully thank you! :)

  • @musicalman33 - one advantage to hiring a pro is that they are there to take care of your needs, not their own. With another enthusiast, they expect their needs to be met, too. And they may be less experienced at cuddling with strangers so less at ease with it.

  • Many wise words in this thread so far.

If anybody tells you that cuddling can cure depression (or anything else), run a mile in the opposite direction, screaming.

There is a graphic doing the rounds (in several versions) claiming that cuddling 'kills' depression. This is dangerously misleading.

  • @CuddleDuncan I WHOLEHEARTEDLY agree!!!! A lot of good comments here. I think a good cuddle can feel just as good as a good workout. A good conversation with an old friend. A new creative project. The learning of a new instrument.

What it can’t do is fix anything. It sometimes feels like it’s a healthy option to escape but just like anything else, can turn unhealthy or lead to more frustration if it isn't readily available.

@Btown you have my heart mister. Spot freaking on.

I feel like cuddles should come with warning labels. Like cocaine or..... chocolate chip cookies!!!! These things might be touted in society as harmless.... but wait for it........ "CAN BE ADDICTIVE!!! Be mindful."

  • Sorry to hear about what you’re going through. Cuddling definitely helps in the moment, especially if the cuddler is sensitive to your needs. However, you may suddenly feel very empty or even worse when she leaves. The other thing I would say is that it is very unlikely a lady cuddler will cuddle for free. But I hope the best for you and that you find ways to cope with the depression.
