Please do not report the same person more than once

I know that most folks who participate in the forums know better but just on the off chance that someone reading this needs to hear this: please do not report the same person more than once. This is becoming epidemic. Person reports member for X. Then reports them again and in some cases a third time. We don’t need multiple reports, one is sufficient. It’s not going to accomplish anything except annoy the mods. This has suddenly become a thing and it’s happening every day, often multiple times in a day. Just don’t. Report and be done with it. Thank you.

  • It's not clear to me what reporting is about, then. I mean, are we reporting people or incidents? Or both? Say, Person A commits a reportable offense X...that should be reported! If Person A commits another offense... Don't report it?
I'm just looking for clarity here.
    Thank you.

I'm pretty certain its majority of reporting for the same offense multiple times hoping to receive a quicker response.

  • @Babichev ~ I'm wondering the same as asked above.

Also @Gary there may be a glitch, because when trying to report from a phone it's kind of wonky (at least on mine). Basically, once "flag" is clicked, and the keyboard comes up, the submit gets buried and the back button has to be clicked to reveal it (scrolling becomes disabled).

And, I noticed the other day that it looks like a report isn't saving because it kicks you back out, and the 'report filed' dialog box is mostly off screen. Seems that may explain some of the uptick too.

Is there's a way to make it so each person reporting can do so only one time per post...?? Seems like that could be a backend fix.

Or better yet, make it so each post can only be reported one time? So after a post is reported once by anyone, it can't be flagged by anyone else...??

Idk ~ Seems like a programming over lay could fix/prevent the issue, but I suppose solutions could have unintended consequences too so... 🤷‍♀️

  • I think @Babichev might also be talking about flags? Reporting a person for an offense personally or flagging a comment from a person in a forum discussion?

Thank you so much for being here tirelessly @Babichev I can only imagine the frustrations you all must endure.

Yes. We’re having more and more incidents where someone is reporting the same person for the same offense on the same day or within 24 hours. I’m talking about reports, not flagged comments. Not sure why people are doing this and it’s not anyone regularly participating in the forums. I’m posting here, though, on the chance that someone who needs to hear this may read it.

@UCpaaHVg6u0 - if someone does something dramatically different that changes the picture then that would be okay to file a second report. Say they were reported for a relatively low level infraction and then turned around and did something very serious, that’s useful to know because it will probably affect how we respond to the situation. This has not been what’s happening, though. I’m not sure why people are doing it.

@quixotic_life - there’s been some discussion of the possibility of fixing it so one cannot file twice. That’s interesting about the way it shows up on the phone. Perhaps something is going on that makes people think their report did not get filed. I’ll make it a point to check and see if there’s some sort of time stamp that might suggest that’s happening, like if they were filed within minutes of each other.
